It looked just like a gear shift to me... most likely done by an auto because of the smoothness of the drop, but possible a decent manual shift by him.
Fue, ignition, etc would not cause that and an electronics problem would cause needle twitching and so forth... everything is very smooth and controlled, so there isn't a malfunction.
I don't think there is anything to fix... I think he just doesn't have enough power... but no idea what he has for a car or motor though to determine that for sure.
then i dont get the meaning of the video...
he showed us the vid to state that something is wrong with his car when going over 100mph....?
- if i assume that he drives a MT:
1st gear 3.416:1
2nd gear 1.842:1
3rd gear 1.290:1
4th gear 0.972:1
5th gear 0.775:1
Final drive 3.850:1 (4.105:1 for my ESPEC ZL,ZM)
then the vid must have shown his shift from 4th to 5th... which would def not result in a 2krpm drop (rather 800-1kprm) and he would of course be able to accellerate further (no matter what engine..even the e-spec B3 engine (1324ccm) delivers 162kmh/100mph in 5th gear @ 5500 rpm (but in reality it will go further...))
- if i assume that he drives a AT:
1st gear 2.816:1
2nd gear 1.497:1
3rd gear 1.000:1
4th gear 0.725:1
Final Drive 3.904:1
then the drop would be the shift from 3rd to 4th gear in the AT transmission (which suits the 2krpm drop a little more, but still not really : )...i mean,i've never seen the AT in the 2.0 "live" while driving (we don't have the AT down here with the 2.0l engine), but does it really shift as late as 6krpm?
in both cases the car is missing the smallest bit of accelleration in the top gear. this simply makes me think that something must be wrong with that car.
i drive autobahn pretty often and i do a lot of things, and of course i had my windows open at about 160kmh/100mph just for fun but it was always the sound and the pressure of the air that made ME brake down, the car never had probs accellerating further ^^
btw: a slipping clutch could also result in such a mismatch of rpm/mph...
don't get me wrong, this shouldnt become some theoretical smartarse thread, but i'm always interested in such "weird" problems..so i'm looking for an answer...
if i was free to take a guess, i would say mazda forgot to build the right top gear into his transmission (drunk)
and yes, the guy won't come back i guess (dunno) why do you people ruin so many threads?
