For the bible literalist, I can see it being a problem...but what's to say that the theory of evolution goes against the bible? The bible is inherently fallable, since it is written by man. There's so much stuff in the bible that I'm sure your friend doesn't follow, so why is this such a sticking point for him? If he's quite educated, then he should be able to discern the literal word, from the metaphoric. The bible is subject to interpretation...the proof of that lay in the many different translations.

So tell your friend to loosen up and make up his own mind about life...it's the uptight literalist who too often become hypocrites or are the reason that Christians like myself get a bad rap.

He might just be one of those people that since Darwin is associated with evolution and the bible doesnt support such a thing, that no matter what hes automatically doing to disagree, because different meaning or not it still says Darwin and a lot of people disliked his theory. Some may even take offense to it. I dont know why thats just how some people are...its how they were brought up..

he's definately overreacting; but if you wanna know how stuck-up he might be, just ask him for the sixth word in the fourth verse of the ninth chapter of the fourth book in the new testament. if he tells you the word (in fact, if he gives you ANY word) right off the bat, stay away from that freak!!!!!
