This hesitation is horrible!

Yup that's the way it usually works (jerkit)

When you do anything with the MAF sensor it is always good if you unplug your battery then do the work then reconnect your battery, just to avoid that problem. Just FFYI

I wonder if you are experience hesitation or fuel cut/spark cut as the air passing over your MAF is being read as too dense?

I have a fuel cut defender, its starting to creep back also.

Real easy, tap the middle MAF wire, get a boost source, your done.

I think the problem with mounting the air filter right to the MAF is air turbulance, since the filter is flowing air fromthe sides of the filter right onto the hot wire, but thats just my $.02.
