Thinking of HID

i was seriously considering a nice set of HIDs but really dont know a damn thing about them i read about 5000k,6000k,8000k but have no idea what it means i want the best so if i could get some help even being pointed in which direction to buy some i would be thankful

I have a 8000k kit and I love it. Basically the difference betweend 5 and 8000k is the output and color.

IIRC, 4500k (kelvins) is white light. From there, the color will get more blue/purple as the numbers go up. 8000k is the color of a BMW's lights. 5000K is the color of Acura's.

My advice, steer clear of McCulloch. They suck.

Got 6000k In mine, love them to death. You can really see at night. I got a off Brand from a msprotege member. he used em for a while and i have em for a few months, no problems. Just make sure you get a kit with a real H4 bulb that has high and low beam. That way you can pass inspection. If you dont want to spend more for the better bulb, look at gettin a set of P5 headlights.

Any info on to where to buy a good 8000k kit? Any recommended brands? Estimated prices i should be looking for?
I'm new to this stuff too so i'm without a clue (dunno)

phillips is the undiputed champ. Just remember that you actually loose light output and the distance light travels with the higher temperturre of light. 4500 has the best actual light output, 6k is lower, and 8k is lower, but 6k and 8k look "bluer" if that is a word. I think that 6k is a good comprimise between the performance and looks. Plus if you go to wild with the color (8-10k) then every cop in the world is going to notice your car and thats not allways a good thing.

I would suggest staying at 4100k to 6000K. Currently you do not get the benefit of HID if you go any higher. basically if you get 8000K, you are only getting a little better then stock halogens.

If the 4500k is the best choice for HID how much difference is there between a HID kit and a set of..say PIAA bulbs which are 4000K and cost about $400 dollars less than a HID Kit, Im not sayin HID isnt worth it but is it that big of a difference to get a HID kit

I am selling my HID kit. It is an off brand and works very well. One bulb is not working, but the ballast is ok. 6000k. PM me if interested.....the clips are already wired for the MSP.

I was looking to get hid kit in the near future....but i've seen people that have bought aftermarket kits and they became discolored after about a year....is that just the bulb that needs to be replaced or what?

I don't want to spend all that money and then they become discolored....right now i have silverstars and they are pretty bright.

I think silverstars are a great, cheap alternative. I don't like the idea of aftermarket HID's. They blind people if not aimed properly, and attract cops like bears to honey.

I had to point my headlights down with the HIDs in them. They never lost color Hookedup240....at least that I could tell. I have heard Silverstars have a young life expectancy, so I opted not to get them when I took the HIDs out.

I've had my silverstars for about a year now with no problems...and half my driving is done at night.

I'm sorry & not trying to be an ass but don't ever get 8,000K HID's, it's pointless and you might as well convert your headlights & foglights with Silverstars halogen and be done with it. BMW's and high-end vehicles "do not" have 8,000K look, it's all 4,300K with the projectors that makes various colorful output in a different angle. If you ever driven one or sat next to it, the actual light out put is 'white'.

The maximum you should go with is Philips Ultinon 6,000K. But it's best to stay with 4,300K. I would highly encourage getting the OEM Philips/Hella/Osram with projectors like Bosch/Valeo and either modify your current housing or if not buy an aftermarket headlights & install them there. It's not pointless but if you want a sharp crisp light utilizing as much light as possible, the projector/OEM HID is the only way to go...

Or you can jump on our Luminics Bulbs. 1/100 the cost and 2 year warranty. Sorry for the thread jack but these bulbs are awesome.

i know jack when it comes to headlights...but couldn't you just buy a ''brighter'' bulb? maybe not, but that'd be cool... (shrug)
