thinking of going catless

looking for thoughts on this, who has done it? what did it improve? is it louder? currently I'm running magnaflow 2.5" cat back I like it but its really quiet and I feel if I run catless or maybe even a hi -flow it might pep it up a bit. Also has anyone run a defouler when going catless to prevent the CEL?

do it gurgle gurgle. the nonfouler works, but do you have emissions\inspections where they check for a cat?

I'd have to say it depends on the shop. If the nofouler works I'd like to try it out. What do I need to get to put in place? would a high flow cat be the same as going no cat??

figured there would be nothing quite like deleting it fully. alright so probably the cheapest alternative to doing this would be to cut the cat out and replace it with a straight pipe aposed to getting the midpipe which is like $300 plus shipping? Main reason why I want to do this is because its almost free power, I'd just need to pick up a defouler

defouler will work fine with no cats...just be aware there is a FEDERAL mandate that prohibits any car in the US to be driven on public roads without catalysts...and the fine is pretty outrageous if you get caught and they are able to prove it was intentionally done by you...so just saying; doesn't matter if your area has no emissions testing...its still illegal...

because of that i would highly suggest returning the cat for any type of inspections your area requires...regardless of if its emissions related or not...the wrong dude sees it without a cat and it'll suck...

No, a high flow will still restrict the air flow

How much of a restriction is it though? Is it very noticeable (as far as power goes)?

On that same note, will a high flow cat help the exhaust from sounding to ricey or, will they both about the same without a resonator? I hate ricey sounding exhausts!

I think with a highflow cat you will still get lots of power. Going straight pipes is gonna be really loud too. Ur gonna have to wear earplugs lol.

Not really, especially with a turbo car. My brother ran open down pipe on his civic for awhile and it wasn't horrible

i cut small squares on the top of each cat with a cutoff wheel and tore out the insides and welded the top back on, so the inspection station wont see my mod =] they just do a visual so im good!!

3" turbo back, catless, single-resonated FTW!

FYI I made 8 ft/lbs more torque once I installed a high flow cat in my Corksport 60mm exhaust. I also lost exactly 0 hp.

a: its loud as ****
B: absolutely no noticable difference, feels a little more torquey with the race cat..
just get a good race cat on a good exhaust and you should be fine, and avoid the penalty for running without one

yeah I don't want to draw attention to myself but at the same time it is extremely quiet the way it is. magnanflow 2.5" cat back stock cats in and resonator intact still.

Im running catless stock racing beat but when i replace the exhaust with aftermarket, ill probably get a high flow cat in there. the car seems to respond a TINY bit better than with the stock cats and its not really much louder. id say upgrading downpipe would make a bigger difference than catless but dunno what your running.

no cels either. though i modified the stock midpipe, so the o2 is still there where it should be. surprised i didn't get a cel actually lol.
