Im thinking about getting a built motor from modern preformance and the mpi tuner and a few other things. Anyone kno anything about the motors they rebuild? I dont see too much on the forum about anyone running one. I see ons about the MAM motors but the mpi motor is much more sensable for me seeing as ho wi live about an hr or so from his shop. So anyone who has one your input would be greatly appriciated. Thanks

I've been trying to look into built blocks/complete engines for quite a while now. I've found a few places that have built blocks for ALL different price ranges.

shaneracing.com
nsnmotorsports.com
**********.com
**************************.com
modern performance

To teh mods:
If we get enough info on these engines/blocks can we make this a sticky?

what would be awesome is if each of the vendors would come on and type a detailed description about their own block. get the info straight from the source!

Yeah, no doubt, I've been waiting for that. I really want NSN to come on here and describe exactly what is done to their block that makes it so good. It mentions on their site that it is capable of 500hp.

NSN Sounds realy good come with allot of goodies ( ARP Hardware, Oliver Rods, CP Pistons, Toga bearings, Head ). $3300 is a good price...

Is that a 0-mile engine though? The one thing that's almost got me sold on StreetUnits is that it's a 0-mile engine, brand spankin' new. I would love to have a new engine over my rebuilt POS block.

I think you can cross MAM off that list because I heard they weren't going to make built blocks anymore.. someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Is MAM still in business?

yes.... but they've dropped lots of parts, and generally take a very long time to get the stuff they do still carry out to customers. They have a rep for building GREAT stuff though.

Don't overlook the fact that many experienced engine builders prefer a seasoned block. One that has had quite a few miles on (without problems) and has been through many heat cycles. The longer they're run (properly) the better they can become for modded motors. Heat cycling will happen regardless, and it's better that it's already happened before the machining...less core shift, etc.

Agreed. A seasoned block should be better then a new block.

Ahhh, these are the things I love to learn. It's awesome to get this feedback from you guys since I don't know much about it. But say a block (i.e. mine) has had a problem for a while (apparently the third cylinder piston ring is bad) and smoked at startup. When the engine is being machined, will it really just depend how much of a gash was put in the cylinder wall or what?

I have an MPI motor. Manley rods, gas ported CP pistons, 8.5:1 compression, and head/valve work too. Haven't really put it to the test yet, but i could automatically tell a difference from when it first got put in compared to when i just had a stock motor.

Yup. If you get your block bored out .xxx", as long as the damage is shallower then than it will be gone.

How much did it cost you? Where is MPI located?

thanks :P

So by run "properly" like as in not blown up (obviously) but what else qualifies as improper use? I'm just trying to get an idea of whether I should have my block remachined, or if I should go with a 0-mile block from SU.

i would buy an engine from Nick

i have nothing but great things to say about him. he's been a pleasure to deal with

hey guys, thanks for the info. Nick is the owner i believe of modern performance inc. the producer of the mpi tuner. He is located in northeastern NJ i believe. Someone correct me if im wrong please. I never knew a used block would be better but what you guys are saying about the heat cycle makes perfect sence. Thanks.
