Thinking of getting a 2009 CX-7 GT FWD - any idea on current pricing?

First post in this forum - I've been in the market for a new car as my old Civic was stolen a couple of weeks ago. Looks like my wife has settled on the CX-7 and I just wanted to get some feedback on current pricing.

I have been surprised by the relatively low prices I am being quoted for a CX-7 - I have had one dealer quote me a price of 23,200 OTD (21,600 base + dest) for a 2009 GT FWD with no options in response to a general inquiry email from Edmund's website. As this is about 3.5k below the Edmunds Invoice price I assume they have suddenly received large manufacturer to dealer rebates ( I believe around 4k) and now I'm not sure where the bottom is.

I have mentioned this price to the dealer we have test driven at (a different dealer) and he said he would match it with almost no hesitation. I guess this is the effect of today's economy and the 2010's around the corner but at least it helping us eliminate the VW Tiguan as an option (another nice sporty SUV but the trim level we want is almost 10k over this price).

Anyone else seeing pricing in this range or below? - I guess I need to make an offer below what they have mentioned (and will probably try 1k) but this low an offer is well below what I expected going in.

Thanks

We have seen $17,995 plus T&L for any 2009 FWD base sport. Seems like you should be able to get a total of 6K off on a GT FWD. Yes it is a good time to buy.

yeah...thats very cheap. probably explains why i've been seeing more on the roads recently.

Thanks for the feedback - I will pull a consumer reports pricing guide for $14 today though I am not sure it will have more info that Edmunds. The dealer showed me a sheet with a 4K manufacturer to dealer rebate or 1k off and 0% financing for 3 years. The Edmunds/KBB sites do not show this rebate - I think it came into effect this month.

I haven't had much experience buying new cars (and the two times I have I have hated the experience though I think I got a good price in the end) but its quite strange (at least to me) that I am being quoted prices so far below the published invoice without even making an offer. On the one hand If I had negotiated down to the price they are offering I would have thought it was a great deal but it seems odd to accept what they are offering without making a counter offer - I guess I have nothing to lose.

I guess this low pricing does affect the resale value of the cars (especially for those who bought a few months ago) - in my case I keep my cars until they are begin to fall apart (or get stolen as in the current case) so I am not too concerned about that other than value if involved in an accident etc.

Well I am the proud owner of an Icy Blue Metallic GT FWD CX-7 - wasn't able to negotiate the price further but they did throw in the bumper guard, wheel locks and cargo net. The final price including destination was 21,588 and OTD 23,175.

The car is in Austin so will take a few days to get here - in the meanwhile I can enjoy my ski vacation in Utah and pick it up when I get back. Now it is time to spend browsing the forums to see what else I can learn about these cars.

As usual they have tried to push extended warranties - they have a "gap coverage" from 3 years 36,000 to 5 years and 60,000 for $750 (extends the bumper to bumper warranty) that I am pretty sure I will not accept, and they had a wheel protection warranty for $320 that covers the wheels and tires including wheel rash that I was more interested in after taking a look at my Passat wheels. Any thoughts?
