So I've been researching installing an Android tablet in my M6 Sport. I prefer Apple, but they just don't have the app support to get all the features I need.
Heres what I've got so far:
Samsung Galaxy Tablet or Asus Nexus 7 in place of the factory radio (would look much better than factory touch screen)
Relocate Single DIN Sony headunit that is Bluetooth capable to the glove compartment or recess behind the tablet
You get to keep the factory steering wheel controls using the SONY MEX-GS600BT, and there is also an app that allows you to use an FM tuner via tablet. I have the non-bluetooth stereo because I have a manual transmission, so I could run a bluetooth mic from the Sony and have BT calling capability.
Route USB from Sony stereo to tablet for continuous charge while car is on.
Install Tasker app on tablet that unlocks the screen on car start, keeps it on while charging, and locks screen on ignition off.
Install Smart Rotator app that will make non-landscape apps go to landscape mode.
Tether my iphone to the non-cellular tablet allowing me to use google maps or Mapquest for navigation so I don't have to pay for data on a tablet that will be in my car.
There is also a torquepro app that sends signal from your OBDII port over bluetooth to monitor all OBDII functions.
I'm not fully committed yet, but I think this would be an awesome upgrade for the factory stereo. I will take some measurements as soo as I get a chance. I would like for the tablet to be removable but don't want to sacrafice astetics.
Let me know what you guys think and if you have any pointers. Thanks!
