Hey guys Im thinking about trading my ms6 for a ms3. I have had the 6 for over a year and a half and I bought it second hand. The car now has 41k miles on it and only 9k left on mazda warranty.

I came across a brand new white ms3 at a local dealer and they offer engines for life and a bunch of other things like free oil changes for 3 years. This sounds very tempting since im not too far to the end of my warranty. For the trade-in Im not gonna be paying too much more than what im paying now.

So my question is how do you guys like the ms3?? Any issues? I know with my 6 I have had it at the dealer a few times for cel's also a bad rear axle. Also the clutch on my car can be a real pain. Im assuming they got rid of this problem on the newer models. I have an early model 6 with type A clutch.

I know with the ms3 I am losing awd. Which is no big deal since I havent had any heavy snow in my area for some years now. I just wonder how the insurance will compare. Im already paying 300/month now

"... engines for life ..."? I'd like to see that agreement. Free dealer oil changes are probably worth what they cost, especially if it takes 'em half a day. Remember, they ain't free, you're just paying for 'em in advance. $300/mo for insurance?! Ouch! I don't pay that much for four cars.

I love my Speed 3 so far. I've had it ten weeks and it's been a hoot so far. It even did well on a 1,000 mile weekend trip. Anyway, go ahead and do it. The MS3 basically has the same motor (I think), and it weighs several hundred pounds less. As for the clutch? (shrug) Mine works well, and it had been eighteen years since I'd driven one.

The motor is the same. Personally I wanted the MS6 but could only get financing I need brand new -> MS3. I've heard the MS3 is more fun to drive, but the pseudo-awd from the 6, to me, is worth it.

I pay shy of $150 a month in car insurance. Got a record?

whateva you do don't trade the 6..sell it outright, the dealer will give you nothing for it! good luck!

My understanding is that only in certain situations (wot or during traction loss for example) does power go to the real wheels. At least that's my understanding. It's def not awd how when we think of anything made my subrau for sure

The MS3 is infinitely more fun to drive. The MS6 is like driving a boat.

Not to get off topic, but why is the MS6 pseudo-awd?

I think it's because the ms6 system is basically full-time front wheel drive with a clutch pack that varies torque to the rear wheels. It can only send 50% at most to the rear wheels so it can never be rear-biased. "True" awd systems use a center differential to distribute torque to the front and rear wheels as needed, so they can send more power to the rear wheels to reduce understeer. New Evos and GT-R's take it a step further by being able to bias torque side to side at the rear, adding sharper turn-in and pseudo-rear drive feel while being almost impossible to spin.

My age doesnt help much with insurance. Ill be 21 next month. Plus I have never had a ticket. But what should I go with if I decide to. The sport or Grand Touring?

OH man, don't open up another can of worms with the sport vs. GT debate.

The GT is barely $2k more, it's worth it IMO for the value and options you get. OEM HID's, Leather/Alcantara seats, LED tails (super super bright btw) and mind you these are mainly the options that are worth it.

Aftermarket HID's suck and always have problems, and the other two just look damn cool!

That is a pretty wild exaggeration. My friend has an MS6 and it is a capable sports sedan for its price and size. The thing that hurt the MS6 is the same thing that hurt the Legacy GT...status. Once you go over 30 grand for a sedan the vast majority of the American population will only look at luxury brands and forget about bang for the buck.

not to mention the 6cd mp3 Bose stereo system.

I got the sport and Ill tell you to get the GT. It is worth it, but wasnt what I wanted (could have had either).

get the MS3. you will be happy, happy, happy!! dont even worry about the cost or how much money you may lose, or if you will have to live in a dumpster. if you have gotten over how much they are raping you on insurance, the cost of the MS3 will be a piece of cake. lol

Tell us about those auto wipers you cant shut off? Sport all the way!

The only way I'd trade my MS6 for a MS3 is if the MS6 was old and falling apart, and not under warranty. But even then I suspect I'd be out looking for a viable AWD replacement for it. The MS3 is good, but AWD would make it perfect IMO.

Contrary to popular belief, AWD isn't only for bad weather. It can improve your driving experience in any climate. I know it alleviated a lot of aggravation for me when driving in rush hour traffic. FWD cars and even my 06 Frontier have to go through all that wheelspin drama before they get moving. Pulling out onto a frontage road from a residential street can be maddening if traction is an issue. Wheelspin isn't something you want when pulling out in front of semi's traveling at 60mph. I'm officially spoiled.

huh? There's an OFF postition, an AUTO position, a low position, and a high position. There's even a mist position for a quit wipe that I never even use because I leave it on auto all the time and it picks up the rain even before I notice it. The HIDs look so badass, and the Bose system gets LOUD, but lacks a little bass. I will definitely add an amp and 10in after I get all the performance/cosmetic stuff out of the way.

Get the MS3 if you want it, you won't be disapointed ;)
