Things I learned from my amp install

1. If you take things apart and put them back together often enough, you begin to do it in your sleep.

2. Get an amp install kit, it has everything you need except an LOC.

3. Get an LOC if you plan on using the stock stereo. Tap into the rear speaker wires left rear "+" is white w/purple stripe. "-" is gray w/white stripe.
Right rear "+" is white, "-" is gray.

4. The remote wire on the HU is yellow with silver dots. NOT orange with a black stripe (this is constant and will drain thy battery).

5. Disconnect the negative side of your battery when you start this project.

6. The grommet behind the glovebox can be cut so as to fit the power wire through it.

7. The backseat can be remove by pulling up from the front part of the seat in between your legs if you were sitting there.

8. The glovebox can be removed by removing the two screws at the top and then pulling the box out. There are approx. 5 retention clips holding it in place.

9. The door sills can be pulled up fairly easily. Retention clips again.

10. When pulling out the radio, use the tabs that the screw came out of to grip when pulling the radio. Otherwise, you stand a chance of removing the face plate surrounding the fm, cd, sat, med buttons. Scares the crap out of you the first time cause you think you just broke something. Not to mention that if that happens, number buttons and such could come flying off and a little white nub thingy that goes behind the button to actually press the motherboard. If you have been here, you know what I am talking about.

11. Mounting the amp under the passenger seat leaves absolutely no room to play with the amp settings should you not be happy with the sound. You may want to consider putting it in the hatch/trunk, whatever the case may be.

12. Wire taps can be re-used should you tap the wrong wire. Also, the wrong wire will not be cut so as to having to respice.

13. Electrical tape can be your friend.

14. The Mazda corporation is held together by retention clips. Which isn't so bad when taking things apart and putting back together (hardly any screws). However, makes you wonder if things are going to start rattling after being taken apart a few times.

15. That pretty much covers it. Tried to summarize things up as I read many different threads to get all the info I needed. The search button is your friend if you need pics. Hope this helps some of you out there.

0awg will not fit in the grommet behind the glove box it needs its own hole... and remember dont run power wire with rca wire or speaker wire... power on one side of the car rca and speaker on the other... if you cross them make sure its at a 90* angle...

Yeah, that was one other thing. I did run the rca through the console and the power wires down the passenger side sill. never crossed wires.

I cannot believe people actually use wire taps. In my extensive experience, they are not reliable at all.

Once an amp is configured correctly, it really never needs to be messed with again. Not an issue to have them under the seats then.

why not.. i like fiddling with my amps now and then... i can't help it its in my nature... though in the winter time they don't get touched but in the summer i will fiddle to my hearts content... i see no problem with that..

they are under neath the strip that runs across the dash that goes to the head unit...

Thank you. I've been wondering where the grommet is! I'm going to install foglights on my 2007 GS 5spd sedan. :-)

(sorry for reviving a dead thread.... but thanks was needed!

I have heard that it is better to tap off the front speakers, as the equalization is better on them (more full range than the rears). Listening to them, I do believe that is true.

Now Im pretty good with this stuff but normally ive put an after market deck in. In the issue of my wife not wanting an after market deck I have to use an LOC and LOC is what exactly?
