They are Ford EEC-V ECUs so why not...?

The newer Protege ECU (and I figure the 3, 6, etc. too) are just Ford EEC-Vs like I have in my Lightning. Now I have heard there is no chip, etc. available but they have Ford calibration code on them. A good Ford chip tuner could crack the code and burn a chip (he might have to have some example ECUs to read, or he may not). I am thinking about trying it with my P5 ECU when I have the extra money (around $250-$300).

All of this is a What If?, and maybe it has been tried, but I am putting it out there...

Try these guys:

JMS Chip

(highly recomended as he has extensive tuning knowledge with Autologic chips as well as helping to develop the new SCT stuff. Did my 4 position Mustang chip $310)

Ford Chip.com

(did a great job with my fOCUS chip $250)

SCT

(Super Chips Custom Tuning)

Good luck. It's been tried before. I know of at least one member who had his ECU sent out. It's a ford computer, but it's running Mazda's code. I think that's the main problem. Nobody seems to want to spend the money. Also - I think you are grossly underestimating the costs. I'm fairly sure the price will be in the four digit range, and the first digit isn't neccesarily going to be a 1.

It's not a simple plug in - read out the code, and tune, job. This is reverse engineering an ECU that it would appear has pretty much been engineered with protection in place.

Still, if you put up the money - and get it done - you'll be a hero to the entire forum.

The ECU's have already been read by a tuner. They could get into them and could mess with them if they wanted, but tuning them was the if. It didn't seem to be an "easy" thing. But it's already been looked into. Keep in mind for that kind of money you can start getting in to E-manage and other things that are more dynamic. If you get into the price range that Micah is talking it is far more intelligent then to just simply go with AEM or Microtech or Haltech and be full standalone and dynamically tune. Also, the MPI does more than well enough too... we have plenty of solutions, and for true tuning you need something dynamic or you get hit every time you need adjustments.

Well if it could be done but no one person wants to foot the bill, why not take a donation and the hole forum pitch in.

If we could find some one that can make or program an ECU I would help pich in. And we could set up some kind of discount for the people that help pay.

For those that helped pay get 30% off, all others make the pay full price. This is one Item that would sell for sure, expecally if it gave a gain of 10+whp!

You guys under-estimate the skill of these tuners. JMS and SCT have already cracked the '05 Mustang code and are offering cheap chips and tuners.

But hey, if you don't want to try, then nobody is forcing you.

I guess this subject is closed, as I don't have the time to try it myself, and my MP3 ECU is doing fine.

I've got other projects...
