All chevy can do is copy or take other cars and rebadge them. The new pontiac gto is an austrailian car with a new badge, the prism is I believe a rebadged tercel,
Actually, the Prizm is made here by NUMMI a joint venture between GM and Toyota. It is based on the Corolla, not the Tercel.
GM is not the worst at it, tho. Car manufacturers have been doing this for years and it goes both ways. We could also say that the new 3 and the Volvo S40 are rebadged Focus.
The worst example of rebadging was the Mitsu Precis. It was a rebadged (really rebadged, same body panels and everything) Hyundai Excel, whitch was itself a copy of the Mitsu Mirage from that era. In fact, most of the Hyundai engines from when they first started inporting into the US were Mitsu designed motors.
There was also the Pontiac LeMans from the '80s that was made by Daewoo and was just a Korean manufactured Opal Kadett.
You don't even know how deep this rabbit hole goes... Oh yeah, the Dodge Omni was a straight-up rip off of the Rabbit.
Hey now... don't go trashing the glorious Omni! I've still got one! 1985 Omni GLH. Non-turbo, carbureted. Still kicks some serious butt (when it works properly)!
Oh I know I stopped before I started writing a book about the rebadging. The talon and the eclipse, the chevy s10 that is rebadged and sold as an izuzu, passport actually a rodeo, the ranger and explorer turned into mazda trucks and sport utility. Like you said the list goes on and on. It would be funny to go into the chevy dealership and ask to see the new 5 and when they show the car go ohh.....I'll keep my original Mazda 5, but hey, keep trying.
yes, the car is competition for a car thats not even made anymore..that says a lot. Don't get me wrong, I wanted a P5, and I still do matter of fact. But the car is brand new, P5's, aren't. It'd be competition for the Mazda 3's. Moreover, i'd suspect the chevy's to prevail over mazda, just because of the name..Its a fact..
