The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Saturday before or Saturdays in general?

Does Byers have any lots that can hold 100+ cars? They don't really use the Chevy lot in Dublin anymore right?

Why would I not like Saturdays in general for a meet Nate?? I don't have a Mazda, but still....... :)

They still use the building for parts and service, but you can try I suppose. I haven't been by there in a while so I don't know how the lot looks these days.

On another note, did y'all see the new schedule for The United Sports Car Racing.... No Mid-Ohio on the schedule again, Indy got dumped and Lime Rock is on. As a fan I find it aggravating cause I don't have the time to travel like Phen, Marlon and Lauri, and the tracks just keep getting further and further away from where I live.... And that just makes it harder and harder to make races when they keep getting further and further away....

Mid-Ohio not being on the schedule is definitely disappointing. However, I'm happy to see Indy go.

I know a lot of you guys are but I'm not a fan of Lime Rock Park. And Belle Isle is total s***. Otherwise it is a good looking schedule.

Just say you have potential clients to meet and make sure you were your Byer's Polo. Problem Solved. Any idea on who I could contact? I saw on CR that they had a Subaru meet there.

I like the idea of Indy, just not on Nascar weekend. If they could run it on Saturday when Indy does the road course or even have their own weekend I think it would be a good event.

Anyone here have a tool I could borrow to do some measurements on my spare block (the cylinder walls) before I send it off for machining?

Glad Indy and Kansas is off! I would rather have Mid-Ohio, than Belle Isle!
Too close to the Big 3, and I guess Honda doesn't have much say.

Racer has a good article about scheduling and how teams only wanted a 10 race season. I feel if they really want Tudor to be a premiere series in North America they need 16 events through out the year. There's 36 weeks in between the first and last race including Le Mans. That's a lot of time and nothing in February. Could easily do COTA or Leguna Seca or even add Sonoma and have one event in February.

for reference: F1 = 19 Indy Car = 18 Nascar = just about every weekend

I've got a Harbor Freight micrometer you can borrow but not sure how much I would trust that...

I can try it for s**** and giggles. The block itself looks immaculate, but I I'd like to be sure that it doesn't need bored out before I go waste a ton of money.

Your best bet is to take it to Gable Machine and have them check it, because you really need to check it at either end and twice in the middle, plus roundness. The tools are expensive, and it's just cheaper to have them check it for you.

G'day folks. Hope everyone had a good weekend. I actually went thru and read everything from Wednesday on.

I had a fun time at the Abarth Experience at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL. Awesome track they have there. Lots of fun and flows well. The even was split into three "modules." On track instruction, autocross, and a head to head event, which is a smaller autocross where both drivers run at the same time on identical courses. No times, but based on number of penalties (cones, stop box viloations, etc). I managed to win fastest time of day in the autocross. The course was lengthened from the day before, and their fastest time was around 30.9. I ran a 29.72. There was a Team Autocross challenge where they split the entire group of 60 people up, took each half's fastest autocross time, averaged them, and compared the averages. My team won that. I went on to win the head to head challenge after that. It was a bracket style elimination and I went undefeated. All of that netted me a really nice Abarth jacket, key chain, helmet sticker, travel mug, and two trophies.

The real cool thing was that they had a RaceKeeper system in each car where you inserted a USB drive, and it saved all your runs onto it with some basic telemetry and map of the course. I've not watched all of them, but this is a video from my final two laps on track. Of course, there was more speed to be had out there, but there were no prizes for being the fastest at that, so I focused more on actually driving. There's a few things I would have done differently if I had one more go at it, but whatever. I'll just do it next time.

I just saw the Subaru post on there. That's pretty cool. Let me find out who to contact.

I rather like Lime Rock. From a spectator standpoint it doesn't get any better, walk 100 yards and you get to watch 2 or 3 different corners. VIR, Watkins Glen, Road America (although I haven't been there) you need a shuttle bus. Hell you have to walk a half a mile for a hot dog. Then again all of those tracks have areas where you can't even access unless you have your track worker outfit with you of course. Of the tracks I have been to Mid-Ohio is my favorite.

Completely agree. I forgot about Kansas.

The problem is that there is no money in sports car racing here. I read an article about the economics of racing here in the states and the last place finisher at the Indy 500 gets more prize money than the winner of the Rolex 24... And that is the tip of the iceberg... compared to F1/Indy/NASCAR no one watches sports car racing so the sponsorship dollars are way, way less. That makes it really hard for teams to afford a 15-20 race schedule...

I've never been to Lime Rock, so I just judge it based on the racing alone... It is short, narrow, and there are no good passing opportunities. Makes it tough to have a good race there.

Was your passenger getting sick? Too much ambient noise here, I can't make out what is being said. Just saw him put his hand to his mouth in an odd way, lol.

You're right Will there are very few passing opportunities at Lime rock. So they have to make their own.

No, nothing was really being said. The last two times out, he said he was going to go without talking and that it was on me.

If they want Sports Car racing to be bigger than a niche market, they need to do something. Bigger purses, more racing, more exposure. Sports car racing could never over take Nascar in popularity, but it could over take the IRL as a good alternative for people tired of or don't enjoy seeing only left turns every weekend.

I'm not saying the larger race schedule would or should happen overnight. The officials have a lot of work to do still with the merger because it's been a pretty awful racing so far IMO. But it would be nice to think they want growth as opposed to survival.

Grand-Am bailed out ALMS, you know the NASCAR Money for all intent and purposes. The problem as I see it is the they way it is marketed here. In Europe, with the DTM, BTCC, V8 Supercars, etc they have huge followings and they are marketed as the only game in town! USCC does not do that and then the go to these venues like Kansas, Belle Isle and Indy! When you combine your series with another one and hold your race on a Friday, how do you expect to grow? If you act 2nd Tier, you become 2nd tier!

Get the fans back in the game! IMSA does not let the fans grid the race any more, big mistake as we used to get families with kids to do this and they had a blast, they felt like they belonged and were a part of something! Bring back The Speed Channel or get new producers or the bring back the production staff from Speed! FOX's Coverage, sucks, plain and simple. The annoucers are great, even though Leigh Diffey is gone, but the overall production quality is way down!

Invest more time, money and promote the Conti Series! The GS and ST Classes provide just as much, if not more excitement thant the Tudor Series. We can relate to these cars, because they are more like what we drive daily. If they IMSA stopped treating this series like a red-headed stepchild, I feel the series will grow.

Lastly, add some incentive to the big Endurance Races, get the Euro's to come over for a Million Dollar Bonus if the sweep the Rolex 24, 12 Hours of Sebring and the 6 Hours of the Glen......would love to see the Audi and Toyota Factory teams come over and play! I doubt that the powers that be will lsten, but it is my dream hat they will think way outside the box!
