The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

on another note, i just got a good hearty laugh from the Enkei FB page... they posted a pic of a really nice FD RX7 with NT03+M wheels and some kick comes in calling it Japanese crap, look at his pic and he drives a freaking Cobalt SS!!! SO HARD!! buahahahaha

Haha! SO HARD! Do you still have that black Cobalt in Forza? Or was that Phens?

That might raise too many questions, I'm sure we could find something else though

I know Protege's aren't the coolest/fastest cars in the world but they hold a special place in my heart. All this talk is making me cry... :(

Give me a call Sunday if you guys need any help via over the phone. Make sure she's topped off with oil, maybe pull the fuel pump relay and crank her over a couple times to get oil in the system first. I hope the motor isn't toast but worse case, I'm sure you can find another FS cheap.

Fixed it for you. I already told you I would replace the motor and not part it out cause I hate when people do that. Although I'm 99% sure I'm going with a skyactiv 3 hatch, it is 100% on how I feel after a test drive. So having the MSP drivable is a must in case I don't like the 3.

I don't have your #

What's a good wireless router to get?

I have a Linksys WRT54G (54Mbps 2.4GHz) from 2007, and my brother is telling me how outdated it is now, and how it may be slowing my speeds down. I don't do anything too crazy online. I don't stream movies, I don't download gigs and gigs of music, nothing like that. I just browse forums, do some researching, and watch youtube videos. I don't need top of the line speed, but I DO like fast web browsing and videos that you can watch without them buffering.

Also, I have Time Warner internet now, but I don't have a clue as to what package/internet speed I have. I ordered internet up back in August '09, and I've just been paying the monthly payment without even looking at my statement(s) ever since. I know it's middle of the road, not the slowest/cheapest, but not the fastest/most expensive. I've just been getting pissed off at my bill going up. It's over $58/mo now just for internet! Looking into switching to someone else, but I want to make sure it's a lateral move and not a downgrade in speed...

There's a reason they still sell for as much or more than plenty of newer bells & whistles routers out there. They just flat out work, and work well. Ain't nothing wrong with it. I've had 3 of them so far. About the only thing that seems to break them is lightning strikes... It won't slow you down at all. I've got fast, fast internet (Comcast Commercial class in the middle of a pretty huge residential area... all the bandwidth on that pipe is mine), and it runs fast as all get out.

Or you could listen to your brother and spend money on something new (shrug)

See, I've always heard these routers were still the s***...that's why I still have it. I really don't have a problem with my speed, but I kept seeing a bunch of my friends switching ISP's (the same one I have), saying "Oh, my speeds are XXXX" and "Well, my speeds are XXXX" like it was a bad thing. So, it got me thinking about what I'm running and why they're jumping ship like that.

I right clicked on my network's status, and it's been from 36-48Mbps tonight. My brother said that's low, and that he's running 65-72Mbps. So, that also got me thinking about what that means...it it's was something wrong on my end?

That's not gonna slow you down, unless you're paying for an Internet connection that's 72Mbps or faster, which would be quite expensive. Even if you were streaming HQ video from a computer to a PS3 or XBOX, you won't use all of the 36-48Mbps. Don't worry about it, keep it till it stops working. I have a crappy Netgear and I can do a whole bunch of stuff without it breaking a sweat.

Nice. That settles that. I'll just have to figure out how to reconfigure it so it's locked down now. Between the internet going down from time to time, and the power going out here and there, I have no idea what this thing is doing now. My network doesn't show up in my list of available networks, and the network I'm connected to says it's locked, but everyone can still get on it when they come over...

Now I just have to work on getting this bill down. lol $58/mo is way too high just for interwebz IMO. What's everyone else paying?

I have an offer from Century Link, around $35/mo for 10 megs or 10mXXX something...I kind of scribbled it down because I wasn't really listening to her sales pitch, so I can't really read what I wrote. lolol

Josh, the WRT54G is known to take third party software, so it can be even better. I have a different router now, Asus RT-N16, but before that I've had WRT54G with DD-WRT firmware. It worked really well, but with only 8MB of memory it was not enough due to multiple devices in the house streaming things like Netflix, Youtube, etc. I can give you some more details next time I see you, but for now you can probably just keep the WRT54G and maybe make it better :)

I hate Monday mornings here. So boring. This one is especially boring because my work is done, and half of the project team is in Vietnam for the monthly meeting.

What about you? You dodge the draft this time? (heyoooo!)

haha. My portion of this job has just begun and nothing is in trouble (yet).

this.

with the stock firmware mine used to crash constanly. always needed a reset. since putting teh dd-wrt on it probably 2 years ago, its been rock solid.

What's that "mod" going to do for me then? Again, someone who only browses the web, and watches YouTube videos. Make it ridiculously fast?
