The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Need some opinions here. My current job is in the construction field and we get laid off a lot. I have a job offer that will be a little more stable but ill take a big pay cut to start. In a year or so ill be making what i am now. If it were you would you take the new job making like 5.00 less an hr and tuff it out a year?

How much more stable would the new job be? How sure are you that you would be back up to the same pay level in a year?

It would be doing Hvac so its not a ton more stable but better than now. They say id be at what Im making now but i guess if its not in writing they can say anything. As far as affording itnot really but i could cut things out i don't need.

Kind of sounds like a big gamble, not sure I'd be comfortable taking that chance unless the HVAC company is well established.

In other news, I might have found another beater, trying to negotiate the price. Again, it needs work but nothing I can't handle myself between now and next winter.

Peaches, stop it. You don't need a beater. If anything, shouldn't you be saving money?

Yeah, but the meoter already has a couple of rust spots from a body job done before I got it, Josh showed me what was replaced and how they put it together so I don't want to put it through more winters. I'm lucky this winter was mild. It runs but I'll keep it in the garage while I work on it, 2001 Hyundai Sonata, 53k miles. I'll know by Monday.

Oh lawd. That will be almost as boring as the Milly. haha

But hey, it's your money and if it will make you happy, snickerdoodle. (hug)

awww, since you didn't give me a real one on wednesday I'll take an ehug. Also, if I get it, it will be for $100 so my biggest expense will be to fix it up and maintenance

he was gonna junk it, said he was gonna get $100 for it so I offered him the same. It needs:

wheel cylinder ($6)
power steering hose ($65)
exhaust (don't know exactly what parts)
AC (don't know exactly what parts)

I can replace all that for well under 1k and I'll have 6 months to do it, and 53k miles compared to 380k on the bimmer is pretty good

I used to do Residental HVAC about 15 years ago for a small family owned company and they also had seasonal layoffs , or they would have us come in to work and give us a half a days work or less so they wouldn't have to lay us off but I actually would have made more on unemplyment.
Would you be doing service or installation?

do you really need AC for a winter beater?

Id be doing installs. I took a 2 year program to learn how to be a tec but couldn't find a job after i graduated. So i got in the union. I doubt ill take the job. I called the owner and had a long talk with him. The company was been around for 30 years but with the way the weather has been they can only offer 3-4 days a week some weeks. I guess ill just have to save money better to get by when Im laid off..
