The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Why is there always a handful of people at any given time with serious issues with their cars? lol Not just routine maintenance, or a window that doesn't work or anything, but all out, head-scratching, problems with it running all together.

Phen's Miata forever, Nate's MSP for a while and still, AJ's always posting something wrong with his, Marlon's motor blew, now Corey's. What the hell? hahaha

I guess I was in that boat too with the P5, and it's random, rain related not starting/running issue. Thankfully the 6 Wagon has been good so far, short of a quirk or 2.

Because we modify our cars. It comes with the territory. It sucks when it happens and while it's happening but when it's figured out, you usually end up with a much better understanding of another part of your car. I know that was the case for me with the P5. I am still amazed that the car is still running in top shape in the hands of another Mazda enthusiast.

Hey Josh, what is it that you feel with your car and the way it accelerates? I drove my sister's 6 in Tampa (V6 auto) and it was very responsive, the only thing I didn't like is that the traction control is a little too agressive when the wheels are not straight. Other than that, the car goes like hell

There's a lag in the throttle, since it's electronic. It doesn't have the snappy, responsiveness, cable throttles have. And it revs slow too. It's smooth, but seems like it takes days to rev up. I'll let you drive it next time we see eachother (I have your Sahlens shirt), and you can compare.

I did the throttle grounding mod a few days ago, and it seemed to improve enough to make the $4 cable worth it, but not a OMG HUGE difference. It seems to only work for half the people too, so some believe it's only a placebo effect.

Cant say that I have had any major issues (fingers crossed)

Was that you at Ridge and Ridgewood toay? I wanted to warn you about that potentially drunk a$$hole in front of you in the white car. I was in the Yellow MSP.

Corey have you removed your VTCS? Is it possible that the screws finally backed out and you ended up with a flap inside the cylinder like a few people have already? Check your plugs. You will more than likely have a plug that's smashed. Coil packs, wires, injectors. There are a bunch of different things to try before doing a complete tear down. If you were closer, I would love to help you. I hope you can get it all sorted quickly.

wouldn't he be getting a misfire then though, if a plug is smashed?

i wouldnt call Phens issue serious hahaha, i mean come on, it was just bad plug wires.... one of those situations where its the last thing you check haha

marlon's motor blew but hes heavily modded and races the car ALOT... you are being very naive if you expect a race motor to never pop... i dont know many proteges putting the power out that marlon had on stock internals without popping the motor, that motor just doesnt have very strong internals

I wouldn't call mine a big issue yet...if it is the fuel pump. Although I know it's not going to be easy to fix because nothing ever is. I'm sure there are other issue that are self inflicted but Im going to change the plugs, coil packs and wires as well and go from there.

Happy Hump Day!

If anyone wants to come over and give me a hand swapping over suspension on the P5 this weekend, let me know. I've still got a bunch of Sam Adams from the cookout leftover I can bribe you with. ;)

Corey's engine is knock knock knockin on heaven's door

If I knew anything about working on suspensions I would gladly help. Hence why my coilovers are still sitting in my living room:(.

^Yep, hopeing it's just a bearing issue. I don't think it would be the pump because the pump turns off the crank, right? I'm just wondering where the oil went. I wasn't burning oil (not that bad at least). No missfire. When the engine last ran at idle it just had a knock and sounded like it was just 1 knock and not multiple. Just got done moving it to my friends house where it awaits her operation table. Going to start off with the oil pan and take a look inside and probably go from the top down. I took my hoist and stand over there just in case. Don't know if I'll break her open tonight, but for sure tomorrow.

Well, maybe that's what's making me think this way then? People talking about an issue on their car for months on end, gives me the impression there's something serious wrong with it since they can't figure it out. lol

I mean, if it took Mr. All Knowing THE Phen a year to figure out he had bad......plug wires, then that leaves little hope for anyone else!

Marlon's motor was definitely an exception though, since he actually ran his hard. Everyone else just has a bolted street car, right?

Happy Hump Day!

You know today's Thursday, right? haha
