The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

we still rock 2 kids in car seats in our 3...tight, yes, but it's a fun car :)

we got the versa due to the space in the back seat and we usually drive that (especially now since the mazda is in pieces :))

(cool)(cool)

brakes are still my least favorite part but I am used to driving a much lighter car with almost the same size brakes.

Great Effin' News Kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I called Huntington about the job I interviewed for kicks and it turns out the lady who will be my boss was on vacation and they needed her to approve something or other. Either way she's back from vacay and they should be calling me back soon with an official job offer.

Oh, and if you think a 3 is small for a baby seat, try an rx-8! We did that and I laughed at the fact that I couldn't fit in the front seat

Same thing with our '86 prelude, all 4 of us can't fit in it because of the baby seat

I feel the same way when I drive our Trailblazer. Seems like I have to push the brakes to the floor to get that pig to stop. lol

Are we talking rear facing or front facing? Because that makes a huge difference.

It was when our oldest was a baby...so the infant bucket seat, rear facing...when the kids go forward facing at 2+ years, it's soo much better!

2 years? You must have small kids or different regs. Per our pediatrician, it's over 1 year and over 20 lbs. Ours at 1 year were 23 and almost 25 lb (twins, yes), so we've already got them facing the right way.

it used to be 1 year and 20lbs, but the American Association of Pediatrics changed their recommendations...it's best for kids to remain rear facing as long as possible...even older than 2yrs

http://www.aap.org/advocacy/releases/carseat2011.htm
In a new policy published in the April 2011 issue of Pediatrics (published online March 21), the AAP advises parents to keep their toddlers in rear-facing car seats until age 2, or until they reach the maximum height and weight for their seat. It also advises that most children will need to ride in a belt-positioning booster seat until they have reached 4 feet 9 inches tall and are between 8 and 12 years of age.

Does it matter when you have a Sparco carbon fiber baby seat? :D

Or your kid in the passenger seat of an F430?

^ lol! you can have your kids in a Ferrari if you can turn the air bags off for the passenger seat :)

I did not know that. But then I don't have kids or a Ferrari :)

huh, oh well (hah). We've got a pair that are good up to 50 lbs and have "energy dissipators" built into the belts for when they're forward facing. We've been really happy with them. They were spendy as hell (well... not compared to recaros or sparcos, but some people have more money than sense). They're also NCAP rated, which upped the price.

At the end of the day, you spent maybe a couple hundred bucks more on something that will be the difference between life and death for your children. I think we all agree that's money well spent.

yup, that's the rule with kids in the front seats...in my ranger, i had to use my key to turn the sensor off

what kind do you have?

Bingo

what kind do you have?
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)

In the "Metro" color, because I have a miata obviously O_o

Oh, that's Metero... never mind :p

But yeah, they're great seats and will last forever. Friggin things look like fighter jet ejection seats. We liked that they're convertible, and that they're good to something like 80 lbs.

EDIT: Copy & Paste from Amazon:
Rear-facing: 5 - 45 pounds; Forward-facing: 20 - 80 pounds (53") in a 5-point harness
Steel alloy frame and aluminum reinforced sides
SuperLATCH installation up to 80 pounds - no seat belt required with SafeStop energy absorbing harness system
Energy absorbing EPS foam panels for side impact protection sits low on vehicle seat for easy child boarding.

They're great seats, just spendy. But we didn't have to have infant seats then buy toddler seats then buy booster seats. These will be good for a WHILE.

How long are they recommending kids stay in car seats nowadays?! 80 lbs, 53"?! I understand the safety concerns but before you know it you won't be able to ride in a vehicle without some kind of "safety seat" until you get your license!

Well, technically after a certain point it's a "booster" seat, but yeah. Don't ask me why. I didn't have to sit in much of this crap after an infant seat, and I survived...

My thoughts exactly. I don't recall when I got out of a booster seat but I certainly wasn't 10 years-old.

I guess the real question being asked is how many didn't survive?

And of course I would help you with any issues/maintenance on the P5. Just sayin. ;)

I love mine.
I know but, it aint gonna happen.

Engine swap probably due to it injesting a screw or two. That is... if it was a 2003 / 2003.5.
According to the sales-hottie. The previous owner was a college student that never checked/changed the oil.

Good to know.
Just trying to be informative.
Would you keep the 3 then, and add the P5? You couldn't just trade it in?
Your kidding right? We would keep the 3, and trade the chick magnet (Grand Caravan). We are over the whole mini-van thing. In fact we didn't really want to get it in the first place, but we needed it at the time.
