The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Levi, figured I might catch you while you are on here... How far do you live from this address?

Sorry if that is a weird question, but Justine might be teaching down there--we will know on Friday! I just wanted to see if that was close to anybody we know or not. I know it is still in Ohio, but within an hour of Pittsburgh and 20 minutes from the Mountaineer Casino!

The service manual says that?

yup

I sent an email to HyperTech to ask if they modified that value, they said no and also said modern cars have a high number before the fan kicks on, that's why I looked it up

its about an hour and twenty to hour and a half away from me

I have a question for the 3 experts or any one that has stayed at Holiday Inn Express. On a balance shaft delete. Is all that is involved the "plate" for the money spent? Couldn't a guy just make his own "plate"? And VCTS or VTCS delete, what is the benefit?

you could in theory make a plate but for the 20-30 bucks id rather just buy one from a company and have the peace of mind thats its a quality part

and the vcts are the butterflies in the intake manifold, even when fully open they hinder some air so removing them allows a bit more airflow from midrange to top end

yeah just buy the plate, it'll be easier. after the VTCS the power band will be smoother. These two are really good for the cost, worth the pain of doing the VTCS, that rod was a b**** to get out...

i had bigger issues with the bottom bolt on intake mani for the vcts than i did with the rod lol

and yea id just buy the part larry

That plate just blocks an oil passage, right? OK, you are right. "Buy the part you cheap bastard"I was curious if it could be done like a D.I.Y sort of thing.Where/who sells the BSD ? I know Cosworth offers one, but who else?

^ that seems too hot.

Typically I'd agree with you Larry. At 21 psi, you're not looking at boiling point until over 260 degrees. It may sound hot, but I'd like to think that Mazda has an idea of what they're doing. Lower temperature thermostat may help. Re-calibrating the gauge may help too. Who knows, it could be off. No instrument is correct without proper calibration.

EDIT: Keep in mind, I'm talking straight water.

yea, its got a bolt to run and then its got a small rubber type plug for the hole... youll have a tad more vibes (really not that noticeable) and it revs a bit more freely

def a worthwhile mod for 20-40 bucks + cost of oil change

I thought that Buckeye schools where in Medina County?

True, I am no engineer. I am sure the really smart people know what's up in that engine to know what kind of temps they want to see for proper combustion and what not.

well you could... but i'd just buy it. Also, remember the oil baffle kit so the oil "stays" in place... I got mine from F2 before they died, don't remember if it was included in the kit

true, so how much does it change with the coolant mix?

I'll see if ProSport offers re-calibration services
