The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I'm not pretending to be a brake pro, but if he could lock up the wheels with the old pads, then he wasn't lacking brake torque, and new pads won't help him stop any faster. What (I'm guessing) might happen is that more stopping friction could be applied with less pedal effort, which would seem like it improved the braking performance, but locked up wheels are locked up.

The brakes are now at the point where they aren't the weakest link. The snow tires I have on are now the part that causes the car to not stop as fast. I'll be able to get a full feel for the pads once I put my new summer tires on this weekend. I remember before with the oem summer tires and oem pads, the car would stop amazing (considering it was stock). But I did notice some brake fade the few times I had to make emergency stops on the highway and back roads. I live basically across the street from the MetroParks, so I see deer EVERY single day. I'd say about 5 time a month, I have to slam on my brakes to avoid the deer. I've actually hit a deer before, but I had stopped just early enough that I only hit the deer going a few mph. Not enough to cause any damage luckily!!! So in my eyes, brakes are a very crucial part of my car HAHA

Evan, our good friend Eric Meyer with Xowii Racing is going to be down there at VIR this weekend. He'll have his Xowii hauler, so you won't miss it. Go and introduce yourself to Eric (long blonde wavy hair) and tell him how you know Marlon and I. He's a great guy, fun to be around and is a wealth of information. Also, if Freedom Autosports is around (they should have their hauler too ~ they were down there last year in Feb when we went) you can ask for Tom or Glenn Long and do the same. they are good friends of ours too.

Have fun and enjoy! like you said, the weather is supposed to be fab!

i guess it's good that we cancelled this weekend when we did, as spicy is back in the shop with tranny problems right now. We've also decided NOT to go to VIR in March. We figured we'd keep her virgin voyage back onto the track locally at Mid-Ohio, just in case something else were to go wrong. one less thing to worry about, having to have her towed back from VA .. that would be a big UGH!

Ya you're correct about XOWii racing going. I see Eric Meyer on the Participant list racing in the PTB class with his RX8. I'll definitely introduce myself! I don't see Freedom Autosports on the list, but they may not have filled out that part. I'll still look out for them.

I'm very very excited since this will be my first time on a real circuit race track!! I'm going to have to borrow a helmet, which I believe is free, I just have to give a deposit (Driver's license). It's going to be weird walking around in a t-shirt again!!! I won't want to come back to Ohio though haha!

Sorry to hear about Spicy, but yes, good thing you cancelled!!

i would do the laundry for her.

yeah, and i hate laundry. lol.

oh, and lots of sexual things too of coarse.

ok. i just got to say, this is something Ohio did right.
Hint... SI swimsuit 2011... Brooklyn Decker. Should be work safe, but it is a hot girl in a bikini. wowza.

yeah...... id do naughty naughty things to that woman haha
I'd do things to her that aren't even legal in 12 US States
id do things to her that make a billy goat puke... (my redneck buddies favorite line haha)

I'd send that girl to the moon. ha ha ha

Have fun and be safe at VIR, Evan! If you want to borrow my helmet you can. It's a medium.

No dirty thoughts, no dirty thoughts, no dirty thoughts. F&$% couldn't hold it any longer.

What (I'm guessing) might happen is that more stopping friction could be applied with less pedal effort, which would seem like it improved the braking performance, but locked up wheels are locked up.

The way I was looking at it is that while it may be possible to lock up a wheel by stomping on the brakes with decent stock pads (Mazdaspeed pads), you waste time pressing the pedal far enought to apply enough pressure on the pad to do that. The time wasted to press the pedal further relates directly to feet given away in braking distance. While both cars may be able to lock the wheels up if pressed hard enough, the one with better pads will be able to stop faster. That is the reason a better pad decreases braking distance even though the tires are often the major limiting factor in braking.
Most cars lock wheels up because the tires don't maintain connection to the road, so they are not at optimal braking when this happens anyway. So the comparison above is on smooth flat pavement. On a very bump surface tires and shocks are just as important and brake compound comes more into play for controllability because you or your ABS system will be able to react quicker with less change in pressure to the caliper.

What you're saying makes sense. I guess I'm not at a point in my abilities where I'd have to worry about the fraction of a second it takes me to push the brake pedal an inch or two further down. I think the main considerations are that Evan 2's pads were old and needed replaced anyway, and that the new ones will exhibit more fade resistance. I don't think that I, as a mortal, could discern more information through driving the car than that, without fancy electronics. I figured the main benefit, if they allowed more friction (in effect slowing the car an equal amount with let's say half the pedal effort), might be more repeatable performance, not in terms of fade, but just a more predictable pedal, easier to modulate, or hold at the point just shy of locking up the tires.

DONKEY PUNCH!!! ROTFL...

and a pink sock

I was hoping you'd see that, haha

Thanks!! I might actually take you up on that offer, assuming it fits lol! Would I be able to swing by tomorrow night around 8:15ish after my class and try it out?

Thanks!

yup... so after playing around with a few photoshops, i def. know what color im painting the OZ's for this year, what do you guys think of it??

my goal is to get something close to either copper orange (lauri's 6) and the lava orange (mz3's and msm's)
