The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

LOL, you guys and your new cars... My RX-7 was manufactured in January 1989 - in three years it will be considered a "classic!" All things considered, I've encountered surprisingly little rust. Must be due to it being a MD/VA car.

But yes, Protege endlinks suck. Even my P5 with ~70k miles on it and no rust required those to be cut off!

Got you beat 1979 Mazda RX-7 , PB BLaster is a good friend of mine.

Ha, I knew you'd chime in. I had a chance to pick up a '79 a while back - still kicking myself for not ignoring my wife and buying it anyway. I still want to pick up an older rotary to restore and keep stock.

Greetings from Casper, WY. Got a Mazda5 as a rental car. Going to end up putting around 700 miles on it in these 4 days. Ouch.

Go to devils tower. It's pretty sweet. We put around 3500 miles on my dad's Freestyle the first week he got it on this huge roadtrip through Canada and the New England states.

Could you not lock up the wheels with the old ones? The pads shouldn't really increase the effectiveness (brake torque) of your braking system, just reduce fade.

Coefficient of Friction is a characteristic of brake pads (in laymans terms it is how grippy they are) and each different model of pads will have its own coefficient depending on the components and construction of the pad. Picture trying to pivot on a basketball court while wearing dress shoes or sneakers. Dress shoes are the stock pads, sneakers are the performance ones. Resistance to fade is another characteristic of the pads and is basically how much heat they can handle without the coefficient of friction reducing.

Lucky bastard. I am stuck with a Chevy PoS. Same amount of mileage though. 3 hrs to get to the site, 30 mins each way from the hotel, 3hrs back home.

Oh yeah.... Been on-site since 4:15am and I might leave around 3pm. Shut downs are a pain in the ass.

Ya, the pads bite much harder, especially when I get them warmed up! Also, I don't notice any fade at all yet...we will see how they hold up on the track Saturday. The weather in Virginia is going to be 60-70!!!! Even though it's just Evan #3 and me, it will be a vacation from this cold weather lol.

I really wish I could make it out for VIR. We have vacation plans for next month and they have a lot of our financials tied up. BUT Jen is gonna let me get the MS# sway bars and springs, oh ya and wheels. WOOO HOOOO!

If you haven't found a MS rear sway yet, I'm willing to sell you mine. It only has 37k miles on it too :) Just throwing it out there

Thanks. You are one of my back up plans. It looks as though all is well with my first rear bar deal though.

Sounds good.

I'm not sure how different the MZ3 is, but from what I've read, the front sway is a b**** to do. Rear on the other hand, takes 30-45 minutes lol.

front sucks but well worth it IMO

and evan 2
the ms3 and mz3 platform is identical, differences are beefed up suspension and better chassis bracing with a slightly different motor haha... but chassis is the same

The front bar requires dropping the cross member, with the chassis loaded. That is the key, and I have a few friends with shops that have drive on lifts and air tools FTW! I am so ready to do some stuff to my car, Jen not so much but she can see a little bit of the light at the end of the tunnel. lol

I'm not pretending to be a brake pro, but if he could lock up the wheels with the old pads, then he wasn't lacking brake torque, and new pads won't help him stop any faster. What (I'm guessing) might happen is that more stopping friction could be applied with less pedal effort, which would seem like it improved the braking performance, but locked up wheels are locked up.

Evan, our good friend Eric Meyer with Xowii Racing is going to be down there at VIR this weekend. He'll have his Xowii hauler, so you won't miss it. Go and introduce yourself to Eric (long blonde wavy hair) and tell him how you know Marlon and I. He's a great guy, fun to be around and is a wealth of information. Also, if Freedom Autosports is around (they should have their hauler too ~ they were down there last year in Feb when we went) you can ask for Tom or Glenn Long and do the same. they are good friends of ours too.

Have fun and enjoy! like you said, the weather is supposed to be fab!

i guess it's good that we cancelled this weekend when we did, as spicy is back in the shop with tranny problems right now. We've also decided NOT to go to VIR in March. We figured we'd keep her virgin voyage back onto the track locally at Mid-Ohio, just in case something else were to go wrong. one less thing to worry about, having to have her towed back from VA .. that would be a big UGH!
