The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

wow this is soooo tempting!! If only I had more money. Suspension is ahead on my priority list though, since the car has plenty of power already.

I wonder what kind of power gains we can expect from this. I bet it will help with the heat soak issues in the summer.

I'm going to dyno before and after the intercooler to see if there are any gains - people debate whether you can truly see accurate gains on a dyno from an intercooler upgrade, but who cares. We will see.... How hard was your prosport boost gauge to put in? I want to run the boost gauge and vent pod setup too.

Going from Top Mount Interwarmer to an FMIC... you should see something at least. The bigger core in the front will be more efficient, etc. Extra piping may introduce some lag.

Boost gauge wasn't too difficult. There are several really good how-to's. You just have to basically take off every interior panel on the driver side just to get to the 1 screw on the defrost vent lol. As long as your careful you shouldn't break anything. The hardest part imo was getting the hood release out of the way.

I've had many non-mazda people ask me if the boost gauge came like that on my car stock. It looks very clean and you can still use the vent!!

you won't see big number changes on a dyno, it feels a little better but not like it feels after the intake we put in. you won't get rid of the heat soak unless you get FMIC

I've always wondered about this, and whether anyone has posted some legitimate comparison numbers on this. If you think about it, the FMIC is also right next to the radiator which is releasing/dissipating a ton of heat. I guess the FMIC gets the "best" or coolest air due to its position, but if you're driving at 40+ mph, isn't a ton of air entering the entire engine bay anyway?

When being dyno'd, they shoudl put a fan in front of the engine bay anyway to assist with that. Sitting at a redlight, I know that an MS6 will heat up to ridiculous intake air temps. Isn't that right, Chris?

yes BUT after being stopped for a while, the intake air temp with the FMIC drops almost instantly, and it flows air better so overall you'll see/feel better gains with the FMIC, the cost is a b**** though. I had both on my speed3, after analyzing the results I would save up for the FMIC

Yep. Just a simple extended stop light in the summer will heat soak the TMIC. I've seen my BATs (Boosted Air Temp) jump 20-25 degrees just sitting.

As far as power goes, you won't make too much more but you'll see some gains. I have the ETS TMIC and have had it for a couple years now. It's a nice upgrade but will not cure you from having heatsoak. It will, however, reduce the time it takes for the heatsoak to dissipate while moving.

If you want some hardcore information and a serious read about FMIC vs TMIC heatsoak, I suggest you read the 10 page report from CP-E when they designed their FMIC for the MS6. It's a very well written document and full of sciency stuff.

The pipes for the shop bathrooms are frozen at work today. Sweeeet. So everyone has to fill up a bucket of water for the toilet tank from the office bathroom to use the restroom. I just came out with a bucket of water and yelled "I have to poop!". haha

1 bucket enough for that?

Lol, hope one bucket was enough, Evan.

About the TMIC, it's too bad that afaik the 240's are the only car that have a high mount IC available. It offered improved cooling over a TMIC or SMIC, albeit at a lower amount than a FMIC, but also improves response a good deal over the FMIC. So it's basically a middle ground. No one uses the stock SMIC anyway on those.

Pipes are short

Still a big-ish core on the front

LMS should fab up the first MS3 HMIC!

maybe i can rig something like that up for the msp...
