The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

it's that little bit of extra i don't have right now, just bought some x-mas presents. I'm almost done, trying to get that out of the way early.

Steve, I would offer some room in my garage for your KL build but you might be a little too far away... But that's awesome you're going that route! We can help each other out. And the next meet will be epic to have 2 KL powered Protege's next to each other.

Levi, all that worrying about the offset and it was just misread. That's funny. These OZ's were quite the rollercoaster ride!
30 offset? Crap. Oh, they're 40, we're good. Hub bore too small? Oh s***. Oh, nah, they're good too.

Jasen, congrats again! If you need a hand moving in, let me know since we will be 5 mins from each other. :)

Nate, buy some toys for yourself for Christmas! haha

I KNOW!! HAHA

luckily ive seen 17x8 26offset and it fit so i knew 30 would fit but wasnt sure how much it would rub
and yeah i looked at the hubs last night and was like DAMN those are big im gonna need hub rings

just something about being up since 6am and at work before 7am has fried my brain today haha

oh well it will all be worth it when the wheels are on the car :D

I'm having issues with my ms3 now. I noticed it last night. I think I might have a boost leak because my gauge only builds up to 10psi in all gears (for max psi, normally 1st is 10psi, 2nd is 12psi, 3-6 is 15psi). Also, I hear more wind noise coming from the engine bay when I spool up the turbo. Also, the car feels slower and the boost builds up slower.

I did a quick visual test and checked the intake/tip to see if anything was loose, but it didn't feel like it. I'm going to take another look at lunch in daylight. I wonder if my BPV is leaking.

Check all the new hoses you put on from the intake install...You can also do a pen test or whatever on the bpv--it only takes 5 minutes to remove it and reinstall it. Hope everything works out for ya....keep me posted, I've still got the stock bpv you can at least try to see if it works better---although I do want to keep all my OEM parts in case it ever goes back to stock

If its under, like, $5 I'll take some...Let's get some Ohio 24/7 or whatever ones made up...then we can just distribute them whenever we see each other or stick them in a $0.32 envelope, ya know? Vistaprint is good, my girlfriend bought a personalized calendar from them.

I do like the whole "you've been tagged by ___________." Let's try to incorporate that on em...

edit: might be free off vistaprint.....my gf and I are making them now....coupon codes FTW...suggestions?

It will cost just under $7 total--that is shipping and all, for 250 of 'em:

Like these designs? Please offer suggestions...maybe even move this new the ohio random thread or somewhere to get more feedback...because phen and I were discussing this in the 'sighted' thread as well...

oh, and the colors cannot be changed, nor the designs....and we've gotta pick one or the other--just one final design

I found the issue. It was the BPV. It wasn't on all the way, but only because the bottom bolt's head sheared off. My friend had a bolt that fit and somehow we got the old bolt stud off. I drove it on my way back to work from lunch and I was able to boost fine. I couldn't test max boost since it's raining and I break the tires loose too easily. The only issue now, is that the engine hesitates around 3-4k rpms when first getting on boost. The gauge shows the boost building to about 12-13psi, but the car doesnt pull until a second after.

I'm not sure how the ecu works, but I thought I read somewhere that it adjusts. So maybe if I pulled the battery wire off to reset the ecu, it might re-learn?? idk lol

I might have to try your BPV James. The gasket on mine was falling off when I first took it off. I didn't really see any tears in it so I just put it back in.

Haha, well how much do you plan on selling your winter tires for? If it's less than $320, then damn lol. O well, I got some nice Blizzaks, 2 basically brand new. I still need to mount them.

I'm looking at around that number, they have a little over 50% left. Having them unmounted tomorrow.

sheared off? WTF? it's been working fine for over a week... I'd reset the ECU again, is it hesitation or delay?

Oooo ic, well I'm actually kinda glad I got mine then. I practically stole them considering I paid so little. 2 have 70% tread and the other 2 have like 90% :)

Ya it's reallllly weird. I haven't touched it at all either lol.

It's more like a delay in power. I did some searching on other Mazda sites and I think it could be the ecu. If the ecu does learn fuel trims, it's possible that it got used to having the leak since I probably drove about 60 miles with it like that. Now that it's getting full boost, it might not be sending enough fuel for the increased airflow. This is just a theory though. I wish I had tools with me so I can take the negative off the battery. Also, I wish I didn't have to drive from Akron to Macedonia (30 minute drive) from Job 1 to Job 2, with only 30 minutes between jobs LOL. The hesitation/delay only happens when I get on the throttle. I didn't experience it in 5th or 6th. Maybe if I drive like a granny, it will be fine till I can get home.

This is a really good idea, I'll pitch in some money for some.

I like the 2nd one better. Is there a way to put the 247 logo on it?

Do take it easy, avoid running lean till you get the ECU reset

I'd think if that happens it would make more power. Rich is weak and lean is strong, but also more likely to zoom zoom boom, so I'd definitely take it easy. If you could disconnect the O2 sensor or something and run it in open loop mode, which is like full rich, it would be safer, like limp mode.

I saw Phen!

anybody watch the series The Edge: Grand-Am Racing? It's on Discovery HD Theater. They showed clips from Lime Rock when the 68 car won and showed the crew cheering in the pits. Phen is front & center.

I would pull off the battery terminal to reset the ECU, then drive shifting around 2500-2700rpms for about 100 miles until the ECU relearns everything. Then get on it and see what happens.

My other suggestion is that today might just be a bad day for your girl, (whatever you named her). I swear, weather conditions are like PMS to Kayden. Seriously, today she felt like she had 400 horsepower, but when I first put the Forge BPV on, I thought I lost power---a perfect example of the ECU possibly relearning stuff?

And I can bring the bpv to school whenever and meet you to give it to you if you can't figure out the issue.

Nate- I was watching that race live on Speed and was juuuust texting Phen then all the sudden I saw him on the tele. haha! I was like "Holy crap! That was Phen!".

Chipmunk- I would assume all our cars would like this colder/more dense air for the motor, especially you guys with top mounted intercoolers. Even my car seems to run better in colder air and I'm N/A.

And what's this talk about "winter gas"? What's winter gas? I've never heard of it? Do they put cheap fuel in the gas stations during winter or something?

The government has different standards for gasoline purity during the winter & summer months. During the summer, the heat makes emissions worse, not to mention the volume of gasoline burned and miles driven increases greatly. It's an emissions/environmental thing.

So in the winter, the gas is not refined as well and because of this, it doesn't burn as efficiently. I've read the specifics on it before, but the specific reasoning eludes me currently.

One of the many reasons that government intervention is necessary, because corporations will cheap out any way they can to make a buck. Oh, not back to this again. (rofl2)

Wow. I had no idea. Thanks for the info, mate. I run 93 octane all year long anyway for the MP3 ECU but is there anything I can do to find better fuel or any tricks I can do? Though I guess since I've been buying "winter gas" for years anyway I guess it can't really harm anything... Nevermind. heh-heh

More etahanol is used, crappy gas mileage and I do love the colder denser air too!!!

Doesn't have anything to do with the octane level. Just the amount (maybe type of, as well?) impurities in the gas.

Ah yes! Marlon's right, there's more ethanol used too. Not sure why...

Ethanol is freaking dumb. Paying subsidies to use corn for it is, anyways... Complete waste of money.
