The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Levi, my sister is coming to town from Balitmore the 20th but I'm not sure about her schedule. I'm sure you can come out Saturday the 20th and we can swap it out then, and hopefully Pablo can give a hand too. But my sister and her friend are sleeping at my house so I'll have to kick you out after the install, mate.

evan (mr lewis) haha

i know you said something about next weekend not being good for you and i forget why....but do you think there would be any way we could set up a weekend in the very near future to put my new clutch and flywheel in my car? mine is actually hindering me from driving the car like she wants to be driven (starts slipping now without giving it full throttle) and i should have my new one sometime next week

I'm fairly experienced with slipping clutch driving HAHA!! When I had my Mazda 6, the clutch started slipping at 120k miles. I waited a little too long to figure out what I wanted to replace it with, and I eventually got stuck. I had to get it towed and replaced :(

I almost made it home that day...I was on 77 and got to a slight hill. Needless to say, the clutch was overheated and I didn't make it up that hill. I even tried to get a running start when it was a decline, but the hill was too long.

Moral of the story...get that s*** done ASAP or you'll have a towing expense too(unless you have AAA lol)

I don't know anything about changing clutches...but If I'm free I can still stop by and watch or help get tools when needed lol.

I'm always down to learn though!

im cool with you coming out if your free... its always nice to have go-fers haha
ive never done a clutch on a 3 either but i just finished helping a buddy put the trans back in his skittles this past weekend

Ya, I assume the 3 is fairly similar to the Speed3, so I at least would like to see the process and maybe learn about some possible problems that might happen when changing a clutch. I haven't done a lot of car stuff myself, but I have helped out with several engine swaps and suspension swaps.

sounds good, thanks pablo

OZs? Welcome to the club mate! Gotta love em! Pics since I can't make Saturday, please!

U got that right...hey Chippy you have a birthday coming up don't you?
yay for my birthday! I'm getting some weird vibes about whats going on...Not to toot my own horn, but I'm pretty bright and know when something is fishy....it has to do with Justine, I think....possibly evan 1....possibly you....possibly others.....hmmm

Anyways, I think the family is celebrating Saturday the 20th at 5:00--I'll extend this to my Mazda family as well. let me know if you wanna come!

^ thanks bud, do you have super or ultras??

and if your inviting us to the party i might have to roll out to that since ill already be in ohio the 20th anyway and you can see the wheels in person haha

Okay- I just talked to my sister. You're more than welcome to stay here friday and saturday night, Levi. They are staying at my parents house. And bring the new wheels with you, I want to see them too! Hopefully we will have the clutch installed and buttoned up in time to stop by Chipmunks place.

Please stop by if you guys want to! I mean, it's just family (and we all live on the same block) so the get together will be pretty laid back. Family will stay until 9ish, then leave since they all have little kiddies and stuff. You guys are more than welcome to come out and stay for as long as you'd like, I've got nothing happening the next day! Let me know, so I can make sure there is plenty of food and stuff...and I'll get you my address (I really don't want to give it out publicly).

I've got Ultras, Levi...Supers were what was on Sahlen's Speed3, I think...those are a step up the scale IMO!

cool evan, thanks for the info, im gonna see if my buddy dirty can come out with me (hes quite handy at turning wrenches) and id like to bring the msm back out too

as long as the clutch/flywheel install is all buttoned up im game to come out for chimpmunks birthday

Levi, Evan 1, not to invite myself over, but Evan 1 and I are "pros" at clutch installs now after doing 3 in a row, lol. Well, I'm always available to lend a hand, and I like learning, too. I was really surprised at how easy the clutch was to do on Kevin's FP.

DuraLast! Hope it lasts!

Clutches are super easy when the engine isn't in the car. A bit more difficult when you have to drop the transmission. Hopefully Levi's axle nuts haven't been too coroded by the lovely winters in PA.

But... if you have issues, just put the sacrificial screw driver in the brake rotor and grab the big breaker bar to bust them loose. I love dropping transmissions!

Kevins axle nuts came off with the impact wrench and plenty of PB Blaster. That screwdriver trick works well but so does someone just pushing the brake pedal. Haha!

And Wes and I gotta get good and transmissions because the MSM tranny swap is gonna be a PITA... :(

MSM tranny swap will be easy. I don't have to tear apart my suspension to drop that tranny.

Drop exhaust.
Unbolt transmission.
Drop transmission.
Install new transmission.
Install exhaust.

as long as the clutch/flywheel install is all buttoned up im game to come out for chimpmunks birthday

Cool, but I don't want you guys to feel obliged to show up. No hard feelings if something happens and the car stuff doesn't get done in time. I mean it. I don't want that, you know? You are driving all this way for a reason, not to come to my boring family get-together, LOL. Just wanted to make this clear.
