The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I can only hope....guy said that he is getting new wheels today or tomorrow and would use those boxes to send mine out on thursday....i got the lugnuts ordered from SU.... should be here just in time, I think!...about a week I hope...

I'm holding off on the decals until I see the wheels on my car...I don't want to be ricer, but it looks so nice IMO: this is waht I'm going for--

ehhhh.....I guess I will say because I am super pumped. Storytime folks:

Once I actually had enough funds, I narrowed down my choice of wheels to either black enkei RPF1 or black OZ Ultraleggera. I like the OZ style better, but like the weight of the Enkei better.

I have searched over 5 or 6 different forums (EVO, STi, RX8, etc...) trying to find a decent priced set of either--the problem was no one wanted to ship. I have been in contact with a guy on Rx8 club about a set of silver OZ's which he was willing to powdercoat black for me before shipping. It would have been just over $1000 for those...He told me "someone else is interested as well because he posted on a Subaru forum".

So I thought he was bullshitting, so I googled 'FS OZ Ultraleggera Subaru' and the first hit was a set of freshly posted OZ Ultra's--$700 with tires (225/35/18...ehhh) on iwsti. I instantly called dibs and Pm'd him. He immediately offered $750 shipped, tires and all.

Now the bad part. They are beat up pretty rough. One has curb rash 50% around. the other has chips on one spoke. one has 25% curb rash. the fourth and last wheel is good. The tires are goodyear eagle f1 and look like they have plenty of life left. Anyways, you can see them if you would like and tell me if I screwed up or not:

Now I am lookign at lug nuts and have a few questions: 12x1.5 right? Any difference whether I go open or closed? I am looking at these right now:

well.......SU open ended Muteki Lugs for around $70

Although I want cheaper. if anyone has a link to cheaper lugs, please let me know. I am sort of new to this..... Thanks!

Hell ya, those wheels are going to look sweet.

I found some Lugs at Summit Racing for like $30. They are Gorilla Lug nuts, Red Anodized. They aren't anything special. I bought them because I needed a set and figured I would try them out. I actually like them, but in the future I want a really nice set, maybe some Work lugs? I rounded one of the stock lug nuts when the socket cracked, so now I will only use impact sockets on lug nuts haha!

Just fyi, those $200 Works lugs and the like are not any higher quality than the anodized ones put out by companies like Muteki. They all chip and scuff over time, especially if you're going to use an impact. Impact wrenches will scuff and wear anodize finishes with a quickness.

^This was the opinion of several people I spoke to regarding their use of both High end (~$200) (Work, etc...) anodized lugs and the run of the mill (~$60) (Muteki, etc...) anodized lug nuts.

I guess what you pay for when buying the Work lugs is the name...

I probably won't buy them, I don't have that kind of money to spend on Lugs.

There are Titanium lugs that are supposed to hold up quite well, tho. They usually retail for between $400 - $600 a set, tho. haha (braindead

Legit race cars use nuts that cost like a buck a piece. Good enough for them, good enough for me.

Exactly. It's mainly all cosmetics. Mine are anodized blue.

Plus, the impact wrenches they use in the pits would tear up high end lug nuts, haha. They would look like cheap $1 lugs after the wheels got switched the first time. (lol2)

Well...as we all know, I more or less say "**** cosmetics" for the most part.

You're talking to a guy with a bright sparkley red Miata that draws more attention than Megan Fox walking down a city street. It's great to have a nice looking car, but when you end up spending 4x as much for a simple part just for baller status, then I think you're a ******* moron.

Know what I'm saying?

true...
our lugs on our car are chewed to s*** because sean pulls the wheels on and off a lot...we actually need to get some new ones, too

It's stupid to spend 4x the amount on something that performs the same function as the cheap part...unless you are building a show car. In that case, spend as much money as possible so you can look at shiny things haha

I bought a set pf black Gorilla locking lug nuts from Summit about 2-1/2 years ago and they've held up really well. And I use an impact wrench on my lug nuts and they still look great.

I like pretty things and shiny bits but I don't see the appeal of expensive lug nuts. I bought the Gorilla lug nuts to deter theft of my wheels. But like Marlon said, "If somebody wants your wheels, those lug nuts aren't gonna stop them.". Haha

I guess we just need to invent anti-theft lugs...when someone tries to take them off, they will shoot out flames HAHA

It's good you guys keep buying ugly wheels so no one is gonna bother trying to steal them. (shady)

(yes) 100%

Bad taste is a personal issue. (detect)
