The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Congrats again, Josue! It looks so good on the highway. I'm jelly. Wagons FTW.

Speaking of that, I can't get the one I bought from you to stay on the windshield. Is there a proper way to prep the suction cups with rubbing alcohol or something? Or maybe the glass is too cold in the winter? It keeps falling off.

Like Peaches said, Wes. You're actually going to have to clean something... Just clean the windshield and cups really well, and a little spit on the suction cups. If it doesn't work we can try my suction cups/mount from mine.

yeah, that also happened to me. make sure the glass and the cup are clean, and put a little of saliva on the cup (no joke)

I need to get another one...

I'll try cleaning it. I used a bit of spit before, and it didn't work. I'm not sure what the appropriate amount is, lol. It wasn't like I drenched it! :D It's already saved me a few times, haha.

Uh oh, I think I see a door gap that's a bit off...

JK! Nice looking wagon!

Hard-e har, I'll get it cleaned eventually, haha. The cups look like they're kind of smooshed out, like they were pressed on really hard and the edges might lift up a bit. I'm not sure. It's a pain to try to stick back on while driving, so it's been on my passenger seat the past week, and I hold it up with my hand in trap areas periscope style.

It needs some things here and there, but overall, I'm pretty pumped about it! Main thing is, it needs a 100 point detail job. There's wax residue everywhere...absolutely everywhere. The interior needs a real good scrub too. It's in good shape though, and will look like brand new when I'm done with it! The driver side all weather OEM floor mat is worn though in a few spots, so that's not been too effective in keeping the crap off the carpet. lol And a few times now, there's been a weird grind after startup? Almost like hitting the key when the car is already running, a starter type grind.

Looks awesome.

Thanks guys!! I'm hooked on Wagons fo life!!!!

Hahaha....j/k. They just seem to be the best configuration for my needs at this point in my life. And Mazda Wagon's happen to be one of the sexiest on the road. ;)

Already ordered a new set of OEM rubber mats, $80 shipped on eBay. And I'm going to HAVE to get a short shifter...this stocker feels like a damn semi. I'm not liking the throttle response either. My neighbor was trying to explain this to me about the 6's, how they have a delay to them, but I never understood it till now. He's got some kind of throttle controller in his car that helps this out though, so I may have to look into one. In my P5, I like to...blip the throttle a few times to get the RPM's up a bit before I let the clutch out. This thing revs so slow and smooth, it's hard to apply my driving style to it! lol

Drive by wire, probably. "If it's not broken, keep fixing it until it is." I think they applied that theory to the throttle cable....

Get a hypertech

no radar detector?
I have a V1. Still have a boatload of tickets. They don't help for when a trooper is hidden and hits you with laser, or when you come around a corner at 30 over as there's a cop coming at you and THEN he turns his radar on, same thing with hills. They have their limitations. I don't see many cops running around with their radar on all the time, they know better. I love the ones that do though!Edit: I was coming home around 3am, so there weren't too many people out. Didn't want to make it easier to get a ticket lol.

is it a V1? If they are too smushed out you can order new ones directly from V1 for like $10 I think. I'd clean the windshield real good, cups real good, let the car get warm and crank the defrost. Warm that windshield up real good and stick it on. A little spit helps but I usually try to avoid it lol. I always had issues with the miata and the V1 not sticking. Once I put it up in the summer it never came down, or else it wouldn't stick. I bought a second set of cups for the other car for that exact reason. Transfer the V1, not the cups lol!

Get a hypertech

I'll have to research them as an option. Price comes to mind, as I'm not trying to dump a grand into this thing right off the bat. lol But, seems I always see them used here on the forums, so I'll have to keep my eye out.

Same with a STS, though, they DO go fast when they come up for sale! Seems TWM would be the best option, but as with all of their products, the price tag is a little startling at first. haha

yeah I can see that, there's a lot of situations where it won't help. It's not a V1 just a regular escort, but it did save me from laser a couple of times. You should get a laser jammer like the one Ted has, that thing is pretty good (but expensive). Its hard to do the limit at 3AM, when I come from downtown I usually get come pretty quick...

I really liked mine, if you combine that with a CAI and a catback then you would get good results. I believe all the mazda units are the same, talk to Ivan about it. He want a COBB AP so he was gonna sell his hypertech. Just make sure the model works on your car, one of the things it does is get rid of the throttle body restriction

is it a V1?

It's the Passport 8500. I usually try to drive so that others will get hit with the radar first and I can see it, but that means there are people in front of me and that's not when I need it, lol. When the road ahead is clear, it's usually clear behind me as well....

The only thing radar/laser detectors do is tell you "Hey, that cop back there is coming to pull you over. Might as well put on your hazards and wait for him... Sorry, buddy.". lulz

Yeah, you guys get it. Some people (without radar detectors or speeding ticket experience) don't get it lol. I never used to do much highway so I never wanted to spend the $$ for the jammers. The only laser tickets I have gotten have been at night. I've been hit with laser 4x in the day, at 100+, and they've never pulled out. Given me NASTY looks, yes. Every single time I saw the guy RIGHT as he hit me (confirmation from V1), and as soon as I saw them I hit the brakes HARD. Once coming across 76 in my 95 POS neon I hit them so hard the rear end started to come around lol. But my theory is by braking at just the right time, they lost their reflective surface (headlight since I don't run a front plate) because the nose dived so violently :) dunno, like I said its worked 4x. The tickets I got at night I didn't bother, knew they got me because I never saw them in time.

not true. I came down the car strip one time headed toward kent and kept getting little beeps. Figured he was sitting at the end of the car strip shooting people before it turned to a 35. Once I passed that point and STILL had the beeps, I was confused so I went 35. Came over the bridge and was greeted by a cop backed into the bushes at that next light, shooting people comin down 59. I was very impressed with the V1 on that occasion, that's at least a quarter mile, including a small hill!

If the cop is stationary and hitting people occasionally before you reach him, you usually have enough of a warning to know better and slow the eff down. My ticket ratio with the V1 sounds horrible but its because I literally speed everywhere.

I'm just teasing, Jess. But with all your speeding tickets and being so close to loosing your license, wouldn't you want to slow down? I'm not trying to tell you what to do and I speed too (though not nearly as fast in the Milly now) but I would be so skeerd to loose my license then not be able to drive at all. :(

gotta live on the edge old man, you don't have much time left ;)

Inner or outer? I've never replaced an inner, but you need to do all of the following + a little more involving some specialized tools.

For an outer:

Changing them, once you break the ball joint loose, is very easy. The problem is, without fail, unless you're just incredibly meticulous and use a caliper to measure, you will inevitably change your alignment.

Also: Buy one of these, you can thank me later:

Basically makes the retardedly difficult job of separating the ball joint using something like a hammer & pickle-fork into a 5-10 minute affair. The nice thing is once you've got it tightened down as much as you can, you can hit the piece pushing down on the tie-rod's stud with a hammer to break it free. Careful: it'll shoot out like a bullet, so I'd leave it connected to the inner tie-rod end ;)
