The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

So, his dupli-color wheel coating spray looks amazing...I am so scared to put clear over it (Duplicolor engine enamel clear) but I really want to protect the wheels this year, unlike how I did when they were lime green. Any suggestions? I'm throwing clear on in about 30 minutes--with this weather, it is taking a long time for the paint to dry in between coats...

Clear them. I did and with the temperature change you might have to let then set a little more in between coats and will have a longer total dry time. I didn't use engine enamel though, just Dupli color color match paint and gloss clear. The only thing that sucks is that when it is cleared, the appear cloudy when dirty and will probably neet to wash and wax them to get the brighter closs back.

Didn't have that option at the time. Damit! Oh well they are getting powdercoated next year.

I did use the engine enamel I have--I wish I would've gotten the same wheel coating spray in clear, but I had engine enamel that I ordered online and never used...and I am cheap...
Anyways, after the first two coats of clear the finish still looks fantastic! As long as they fully cure without issue, I think I will be safe. One more wet, topcoat of clear to go and then I think I am good:

1 coat grey primer
2 coats black primer
4 coats graphite duplicolor wheel coating spray
3 coats duplicolor engine enamel clear

Then I will give it a few hours tonight and then put them back on the car. Then the car will sit all night (not drive it anywhere) and cure the paint. Tomorrow morning I have dentist at 10am and alignment at 1pm. I also want to wash the car before MidOhio--think it will be okay to hand wash on Friday? Thanks for all the help guys! I'm excited to get semi-decent pictures up of my new suspension and new color wheels. The graphite color looks almost OEM with a darker undertone to it...but I am also painting in a dimly lit garage and high on fumes!

Jon, since you track your car I like stickers. Hell, I don't even track my car and I have stickers on it. But most are on the sunroof were people can't really see. I really like how Marlon's car looks, especially on the road. I would crap myself if I saw him pass me on Route 8 and didn't know it was his car. But I'm a little kid when it comes to cars and have always loved race cars.

I wanted to tell you when I was following you home from the Auto-x, your car looks badass from behind. The circle tail lights, black badges and RPF1's = hot. No homo.

There's nothing homo about that. I love round tail lights, especially on an R30. MMMmm!

Honestly, I wish i could have my car on jackstands. Then I wouldn't have to rush my car work so I can get to work in the morning... I really want a beater for just such occasions...

I have never, ever had a car alignment before, so sorry for the really dumb question: Do they need to take the wheels off at all? I'm worried about my freshly painted babies...

Hey, at least everything is coming together for me here at the end--should be good to go at MidOhio, but I do need to take it easy because my brakes are shot. New setup needed ASAP after graduation and back to working 35+ hours a week.

no, they don't. but you might wanna make sure they know what they're doing. They dealer was afraid to touch my coils when I asked for a custom alignment. Go to the Conrad's mentioned on the other thread, they're really good.

No I don't think the wheels should have to come off. Brakes are shot? Grinding, hope not? Most likely won't pass tech if that is the case.

If you go to Conrads, Lou knows how to do alignments. tires do not come off. make sure you talk to Jay @ Mid-Oho about brakes.

I don't have a beater, just a very understanding mother that doesn't leave the house much anyway

I do not believe my brakes are grinding...they are just worn more than I expected them to be. There is no squeaking or squealing or anything when I go to stop, unless sometimes when I crawl to a stop very slowly...

I am going to Conrads tomorrow to have the alignment done at 1:00. I tried to call Keith, he was not in--I hope Lou is the guy who does my alignment!
