The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

^^^ My main question was regarding the vents themselves. A/C and heat are gone and aren't coming back. That's done. If there's a benefit to keeping the vents, even without A/C and heat, they can stay. Like I said previously they're not heavy. In theory blowing fresh air on a window should defog it as the goal is to equalize temperature and humidity. In actuality even on the "fresh" setting the air picks up some heat and humidity from the car and A/C is required. Didn't the Protege's force A/C when the defroster/defogger was selected? I experience this in my 2 a lot as the defroster/defogger doesn't do crap until I turn on the A/C regardless of temperature. Also, the few times I ran my RX7 at Mid-Ohio in April and May I don't recall having fogging issues. My only conclusion is that without heat and A/C the vents are useless and might as well be removed and since I can't defrost/defog my windshield being able to do so on the rear window is no value added so might as well delete the rear defroster too.

...and actually, I'm getting further from "because racecar" and more toward "because it's my damn car and I'll do what I want, which happens to include both street and track driving"

Yeah, the Protege did force A/C operation when on a defrost setting. Even if you turned the button off, it was still on.

And yeah, you can do what you damn want, and that's fine. That's what we all do... but when everyone here has jumped on the track car track car track car bandwagon, and did everything to build a track car (but never complete it), it's easy to assume the predictable reasoning of "because racecar."

You shut your ***** mouth, Phen. Oh wait... I never finished my P5 track car... :(

Mid Ohio can get pretty foggy in the early hours between the months you mentioned, and that can come into the car as well. I know a few people who have complained about fog inside their race cars during days like that. I know this topic has been talked about several times now, and someone (usually Marc) chimes in and says "No you want that, trust me." And since I've done nothing more than help people who have ran in said conditions, and heard them b**** about it, my input is worth about as much as a bucket of piss to somone who is looking to lose all the weight possible "Because racecar."

Anyway, CJ Wilson Conti MX-5's run these on the front windshield to help combat the fogging issue. They say it works great but you have to turn it on about 15 minutes before you start driving because they work slow. Weighs little and will still achieve your goal of getting rid of every thing possible.

Phen thanks for thinking of me. lol
I have used shaving cream on the inside of the windshield on the rx7 when it was raining all weekend at a national tour so everything was soaked. and as soon as the wet driver got into the car that was also wet inside it instantly fogged over. A friend of mine told me to wipe shaving cream foam on the inside of windshield and then wipe it off with a towel and it stayed clear for the day.
And the "new" RX-7 that I've been working on doesn't have any defroster or wipers on it, so wish me luck in the rain.

Peaches, does your MSP have any defrost? How did it go in the rain at Mid-Ohio?

is Wes ever going to finish?

Ironically, I sent him a message this morning asking how it was going. I really don't think she'll ever get finished... I was talking to Phen and a couple Protege friends about it this morning. I really miss that car. Super easy to work on, cheap parts and KL's are like $900 shipped so it would be cheap to run and not worry about breaking anything. The Fatty is going to cost me an arm and a leg to run in 2014 and if anything breaks (knock on wood) I'll have to take out a loan with Dodd Banking Services.

I figure once Fatty is paid off in 3 years I'll buy a Miata or another Protege to track/auto-x. Something cheap and plentiful.

it does not, I cleaned it with the stuff Lauri likes (can't remember the name) before the race. I had my windows out, so when I was moving that kept it from fogging. My issues was carrying enough speed for the water to clear the lexan, couldn't see very well.

It might be for sale when you start looking lol.

But no way would I pay the price he paid. haha I feel kinda bad, he got ripped off. $6500 for a shell, no wheels, interior, battery, seats, motor/trans. Nothing. You can buy a nice modded running MSP for that much these days.

Peaches and Marc, can you use Rain-x on Lexan without it attacking the material and causing hazing?

I need to find a track car... :) Really mine isn't made for the track, but it didn't do that bad at Mid-Ohio. Just two totally different driving styles in the same car. She is made to rotate a lot for autoX, and has no ***** given when you are at a higher speed with the rear end as tight as it is. Almost needs a functional wing to get the ass end to stay down and in more control.

straight from rainx's site

Avoid using Rain‑X Original Glass Treatment on any plastic surfaces, including motorcycle windshields, ATVs and solar panels.

It will most likely dull or haze it.
Use at your own risk Evan :)

There ya go, thanks, Chris. Motorcycle windshields are lexan, no? So Peaches and Marc, might not want to try it on your windshields.

I have stock glass windshield in my car, I didn't want a lexan windshield they need extra bracing inside and the scratch to easy.
