The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

The point is that I'm bored because I'm doing something I don't want to do, not enjoying it, knowing full well there are other things I'd rather be doing, and I don't hate myself enough to force myself to do things I don't enjoy doing. (boom08)

Ya, my point was that you can get a better workout in 30-45 minutes than most ppl get in 1 1/2 hours. So you can cut the work out times in half and get better results to boot. And you don't need a partner. ;)

You have to work up to full out circuit training tho, or you will be passing out and/or puking. haha

That and push-ups, pull-ups, dips & running/swimming/biking go a long ways... Unless you're trying to seriously body build or put on weight, thats all you need to stay fit. (shrug)

Huh. That's one way to say it. Hahaha.

That's why I like biking. At least I'm outdoors, scenery change, etc. Sure, it doesn't do as much as circuit training, but if I'm hitting up a difficult off-road trail, I'm busting my ass pretty well to keep a good pace since I ride a single speed.

Biking like you're doing is a really good workout. Great for legs & conditioning. This talk of working out is actually getting me thinking about it. I think it may be time to start losing this 25 lbs of extra weight I've put on in the last 6 months... I think I can count on my 2 hands the number of times I've worked out since I quit playing baseball... That was 6 years ago, lol.

What the activity or work out is doesn't create the motivation to do something that will not be enjoyable. I understand my own shortcomings of motivation. I know what would help get me started. Once I do it often enough I'm sure it would become habit and would no longer need a personal trainer or workout buddy.

Yeah... I don't go mountain biking nearly enough for it to make a big difference. That is somewhat my fault, but based on previous injuries... I'm nervous to go alone.

I've been doing more road biking than anything else. I do enjoy that quite a bit.

When I lived up that way I enjoyed the bike n hike paths a lot. It gets you out in nature while keeping it an easy ride.

Anything with hills is a really good workout, lol. I ****** hate hills. I was never much of a conditioning/long distance running/biking person. Even when I was in prime shape, I could run a sub 7 minute mile without any trouble, but my lungs never liked it and anything more than 2-3 miles of running and I thought my lungs were gonna collapse. I've had a few people tell me that I may have had (Or I guess I would still have it, huh?) minor aesthma (the kind that's induced by heavy activity).

I get this from frisbee golf. Nice & easy.... lol

I was born with asthma. It makes most running activities not all that much fun. Biking is one of them that keeps that to a minimum which is why I did it. Isn't anywhere to ride around here.

The hike & bike ride that I did last night has a few hills. I haven't mapped it out yet, but I'll link you when I do. They're not very steep, but some are long distances. I despise hills on my mountain bike if I'm not first in line. I have to keep a good pace going or else I come to a dead stop.

I've developed asthma over the last... maybe 8 or 10 years. Don't know where it came from, why it happened, or anything but I have a daily inhaler I have to take or I cough uncontrollably all day long. It's a real pain in the dick. I have little issues when biking, but once in a while, I'll catch the right hill or something that makes me have to stop for a few minutes to catch my breath, grab the rescue inhaler, and then I can continue.

Fair enough, that doesn't help with the working out thing. I know the feeling of not being able to get adequate oxygen to your body/head and it's not fun.

If I was still living up that way you could have a biking buddy. I know good stretches where it's pretty darn flat for about 6 miles one way.

Yeah, it's quite a damn shame that you moved right before meeting everyone.

Yeah, both where I lived in Macedonia and in the Valley were right down the street from the bike n hike. Oh and right around the corner from Gioninos too. Great pizza.

I prefer swimming as a workout. It's a full body type of workout and uses muscles you aren't normally using. That and even if I am not pushing it and going at a leisurely pace, I'm still doing a lot.

Although for a strength training type of workout, I find that the P90x system works wonderfully. (If you follow the program though.)

+1 to swimming. Easy on joints, great cardio and an overall total body work out.

I've heard really good things about the p90x system. It's very similar to circuit training from what I've heard/read about it. I've also heard it's not for the faint of heart, lol. I know several people who have bought it, tried it a few times and said, F that! lol

there's bike trails in groveport not that far from you

Go out on the road and from a dead stop, try to start off in a high gear. If the clutch is slipping, you won't stall.

i start in second a lot when there's snow on the road, and i've inadvertently started in 3rd before... never stalled at all... i'll have to try it again tho... hmmm, it's probably nothing then... nvm

It's definitely not for the faint of heart, but the thing about P90x is to do what you can do and COMPLETE the session. The first time I tried it out I was amazed by how I couldn't even do close to what I thought I could. It's all about doing what you can and pushing yourself. I loved the idea of taking pics at the start and at the end. It really shows your progression and changes over 3 months. The diet plan helps because most of us don't eat as healthy as we should, myself included.

The first two sessions I did (180 days total) completely changed me. I do a physical fitness assessment twice a year for the Navy. The one last fall was my best one ever while in the military. I completely destroyed my numbers from when I was 10 years younger.

Push-ups: 76 in 2 mins
Sit-ups: 98 in 2 mins
1.5 mile run: 10:48 sec

btw.... I'm pushing 30, 5'10" and a whopping 135 lbs. Yeah... skinny as hell, but in shape!

OMG these hellaflush fags* make me want to take a brick to my forhead!

I've never read so much ignorant bulls*** in my life! It's okay though. I'll take my vehicle, which is perfectly capable on the street and on the track, while looking good in my own opinion (which is all that matters, right?) as well as the ability to own/carry a firearm and ability to own a vehicle with zero emissions equipment and keep my ass planted in SW Ohio.

Seriously, all those other idiots almost make me want to start a thread, which would almost certainly end in my being banned...

*Sorry if I offended any homosexuals by comparing them to these west coast morons.

But holy s***.... Really?! REALLY?! Do you have to ask this question and get a verification from other people with the same mind set?
