The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

It was more of a planned failure point than it was an LSD... lol.

Remember the days when 170 hp in a FWD 4cyl was king s***? Or are Evan and I just really old? (We had this discussion once, a while ago)

That's one of the reasons I got the MSP, 170hp was impressive back in 03 and in 06 with only 18k miles for under $14k. Then I got greedy.

That's why I'm not a big fan of adding to much power to the MSP. I just love her for the way she handles those curves, oh yeah!

So...

New series name/logo.

saw that the other day, just kinda blah. Doesn't seem like alot of thought was put into it.

I'm afraid it might become to much like nascar going forward

Grand-Am/Le Mans new name & logo post merger next year

I'm extraordinarily disappointed by the new logo/name. Both are lacking in creativity.

I'm really confused why they decided to kill the ALMS P1 class but keep the Grand-AM GX class. I'm also interested to see what the DP cars are going to do to get up to speed with the P2 cars. Other than that I could care less. The Continental Tire series is much more interesting to me.

could have been worse,

NASCAR - sports car series

Because Grand-Am couldn't merge (take over) and have thier DP's get dusted every race. They will anyway by the p2 cars.

No they won't. They will change the DPs to give them more downforce and that will help them be competitive with the P2 cars. They have plenty of HP to deal with the extra downforce, but that is the biggest difference between the two platforms (downforce that is).

P1 was done away with because there was only 3 cars and 2 teams running in it. Plus new regulations by the ACO are going to make it prohibitively expensive for privateer teams to compete in Le Mans or the WEC (not that the ALMS P1 teams did anyways).

They haven't officially announced what is going to happen to GX, only that it isn't going away. I'm guessing that it will most likely become a subclass of Grand-Am GT and they will get a boost in performance. Then cars will compete in a sub-championship for GX (kind of like the GreenX challenge in ALMS now). But that is just speculation on my part.

I don't have faith the DP's will challange the first year they are together. I think your spot on on the GX Class

edit:
The United SportsCar Racing series will run a total of five classes. The Prototype (P) class will consist of Daytona Prototype, ALMS P2 and Delta Wing cars, while the Prototype Challenge (PC) class will consist of ALMS LMPC cars.

On the production side, the GT Le Mans (GTLM) class will be for ALMS GTE entrants, while the GT Daytona (GTD) class will consist of both Grand-Am GT and ALMS GTC entrants. Finally, the GX class, introduced for the 2013 Grand-Am season, will carry over into 2014.

They'll be better at some places. Daytona for example. But at a place like COTA they will suffer from the lack of downforce. I'll be curious to see what they do to level the playing field but I would imagine it will take at least a couple years to sort out.

I really really really really hope they keep the tire battle of P1 and P2. It adds another entertaining element to the racing if you ask me. This is the top level of American sports car racing, I don't want it to be a spec class.

Edit: I didn't see that part about the classes. I think it's stupid to keep GX as is. They get in the way.

I dont know why you all are hating nascar so much, yes its just racing around oval tracks (for the most part) BUT they have built up and assembled a serious group of good drivers, week in and week out have suspenseful/tight racing, have HUGE crowds week in and week out, built their sport to be on NATIONAL TV channels week in and week out and are actually alot of fun to attend in person. go ahead and rip me and call me a redneck but a bit more of "NASCAR" rubbing off on might not hurt the road racing circuit series...
