I was thinking 2014, I need to do the basic maintenance (all fluids, plugs, wires) and I want to put on a tach, trailer brake controller, catback, intake and tune to help with MPGs and a little more power for towing (a lot of people recommend it). The brakes feel very good, but I want to check them anyway. I also want to put the box I got from Marc a while ago on the bed, as well as a cover. That will take a while, I'll use the small trailer and sell it next year.
Also, I'm not buying a big trailer, I'll follow Bills lead. Rent the trailer from U-HAUL for like $35 a day, use it, return it.
Ok, I see your point on lowering. As far as the controller, Bills comment is always in my mind about how the brakes on his Trailblazer overheat when going to VIR, that downhill is killer... so I'd rather be safe with that and put less stress on the truck.
Unfortunately a brake controller won't work with a u-haul trailer because they don't have electric brakes, only surge brakes. The thing to do is let the speed build up a little and then slam on the brakes so it uses the trailer. Still not ideal for mountain conditions, but easier than storing and maintaining a trailer for a few weekends of use per year.
Because it was 2 in the morning and I was making good time.... My first time at the track and I didn't realize how long that curvy downhill section was going to be.Why not downshift? That's what I've always done. If the trailer starts swaying use the *cough* brake controller (that's why I don't use U-haul lol) to engage only the trailer brakes to straighten the rig out.
