The person that hit the 3 definatly owned up to it. Since Jen was only like 30 feet from the car when it happened and the lady is the mother of one of the other dispatchers she knew what was up. Not much damage really.

As far as recliners go, I know most have small levers on each side that allow the backs to come off. You will find them where the back and seat come together, usually they are small and hard to get to.

So Pablo, how long until you get a trailer for hauling your Miata? Nice find on the truck btw. Winter will be fun!
 
I was thinking 2014, I need to do the basic maintenance (all fluids, plugs, wires) and I want to put on a tach, trailer brake controller, catback, intake and tune to help with MPGs and a little more power for towing (a lot of people recommend it). The brakes feel very good, but I want to check them anyway. I also want to put the box I got from Marc a while ago on the bed, as well as a cover. That will take a while, I'll use the small trailer and sell it next year.


Also, I'm not buying a big trailer, I'll follow Bills lead. Rent the trailer from U-HAUL for like $35 a day, use it, return it.
 
That is a pretty good idea. You don't have to worry about maintenance or anything like that.
 
Pablo... just a heads up, my friend Chris' dad used to haul his enclosed trailer and Monza drag car with an identical truck layout and didn't bother with any of that stuff that you mentioned. It's kinda overkill, but I know how you are...

EDIT: I lied, his was a couple years older and extended cab. Same engine though.

The engine can handle a trailer but the MPGs will drop, bolt ons will help a little. Since its an XL, the dash doesn't have a tach so right now I'm going by feel and ear. I'll be more concerned about the revs when I begin towing. I've reved it a bit but haven't got to the limiter yet, it's actually pretty quiet till it starts getting up there, and even then its not that loud.

I'd also like to level it (rear is higher than the front), maybe lower it a bit but that's not a priority or anything, haven't even looked into what needs to be done.
 
ill second the trailer brake controller being overkill.... ive hauled cars on trailers up and down mountains in my dad old v6 Astro work van without an issue

the mpgs will drop towing regardless of mods you do...

the rear sits higher to offset the squat when the bed is loaded or your towing

Peaches, why not just leave it stock? Isn't that the point? You're talking about lowering it, intake, exhaust etc. That's more money into a winter truck/hauler when you could be using it on your MSM or paying off bills. Not trying to tell you what to do with your money though. (kiss)
 
Overkill when towing is never a bad thing. I don't think the brake controller is a bad idea. I use one when towing and it makes things a whole lot easier on the truck.
 
Dude... you can put 50 pounds in the bed and the mileage will drop. It's a truck. The only way to really improve mileage on a truck that you're towing with is to buy a diesel in the first place. Here's whats going to happen. You get an intake and exhaust, you get foot heavy because you love the way it sounds. Mileage decreases. Money wasted.

Trucks are supposed to sit like that. It's so you can put weight in the back, or a trailer on it and THEN it's level.

This! If you lower the back you'll ruin it's towing/hauling capabilities.
 
Ok, I see your point on lowering. As far as the controller, Bills comment is always in my mind about how the brakes on his Trailblazer overheat when going to VIR, that downhill is killer... so I'd rather be safe with that and put less stress on the truck.
 
I am a firm believer in brakes on trailers, especially if you are towing half the weight of a car and up

Yeah, but you're also comparing a midsized SUV to a full sized truck. Not exactly apples to apples there bud...

Good pads, good rotors, and since it's a manual, you can engine brake.

hes also driving downhill on a winding road... thats like the perfect storm for overheating brakes while towing a trailer haha
