The Ohio Auto-X and Track Event chat thread

Cooler with cold beverage, sun screen, chair, numbers from #2, small tool box, extra oil (it's a Mazda thang), tire pressure guage. That's all I can think of.

I don't really feel like texting Patrick and #2 but you are both coming to the Auto-x Sunday right? Patrick, please bring #2's valve cover and I'll give you the $100 (or what's left of it...).

haha yes I have his valve cover its been in the back of my car for a while. Goes everywhere with me lol. So Evan with your track tires how to do you keep them seperated? like do you have them at different air pressures? I've seen people mess with them but I don't know what to do and how it will help

You're asking the wrong cat, buddy. I have no idea what I'm doing. Haha

Honestly, I wasn't impressed with my NT-01's at Toledo. They seemed slippery on the MS6. I think my regular Conti street tires have more grip. Granted the Conti's are 235/45 and the Nitto's are 215/45 but I was expecting them to be much stickier. I'm just going to run my street tires Sunday. I think I've got the silver RPF1's sold to a friend so I'm not going to run them anymore. So if any Protege guys want my tires you can have them. But again, I have no idea what I'm doing.

It was cold/wet/rainy in Toledo. The NT-01s are not a soft r-compound to begin with so it doesn't surprise me that they were slippery. There is a good chance you never got enough heat into them.

What kind of r-compound tires do you have Patrick?

Use this as a baseline or starting point for your pressures: http://www.midatlanticmotorsport.com/hoosier_tire_tips.htm

If you know you're going to get a bunch of runs you can play with the pressures by adjusting them up or down to see how it affects the balance of the car. I would run higher rear pressures to help the car rotate.

Thanks will. lots of information there. Most pertaining to "pros" but a lot of tips on how to better the performance of my tires. I am going to mess with the pressure saturday and sunday to get my best results

Yeah, I would just use the pressures from those page and not worry about much else. It's going to be tough because as you learn the course you will consistently get faster and faster despite your changes in pressure if you make any.

If I were you I'd start with the pressures in that range and then raise the rear tire pressure and see if you feel a difference. That will be a good way to learn how an adjustment in tire pressure affects the balance of the car.

true. I wish I could unhook my front end links but its just such a pain to get them back together and without any clunking so maybe the higher rear pressure would help.

Yep play around with it and see if you notice any difference.

You are getting rid of the Nitto's? I might take them, how much $?

The Nitto's just require more heat Evan. They are more of a track tire than autoX.

Larry, I'll save them for you and you'll just bail again so you can have them for free. I think I gave Marlon $200 for them years ago and have used them a handful of times. I've got Hoosiers like Patrick for the fatty (MS6).

Well if they are a track type tire I would be wasting my time anyway right? Unless I run them for a summer or less on the street. Seems like a waste to me.
