The Ohio Auto-X and Track Event chat thread

Will there be any autocross this season within 30 miles of Akron? I know Porsche Club (or similar) had events at Hartville Market in past years, are there still events being held there? I really would like to attend some this year, but don't want to drive very far in case the Miata has to be limped back home or towed.

Me too!!! (2thumbs)

The word on the street is that Mr. Patrick Martz is registered. Looks like he'll be throwing down in SM.

Once upon a time NORA/ASCC ran events at Geauga Lake. They've been working on a lot in Richfield this year. But, who knows if there will be any events from them. Autocross the MS3!!!

Richfield would be perfect, only 11 miles from my house! I hope they get that sorted out. I could take the MS3 but I don't really want to subject it to the harshness of autocross, plus I really want to autocross a Miata again. It's been a while since I autocrossed my last Miata.

Just get a AAA membership, Anthony. It makes me feel a heck of a lot better knowing if something goes boom I can at least get it back to my garage without costing an arm and/or leg.

Well I do have roadside assistance with my insurance, but I doubt it will cover towing that far.

Autocross is much easier on hardware than track days... Just sayin'.

There has been a few guys from NORA that have running over here at NWOR. I can't remember his name, but the guy that does most of the public speaking has been running over here.

I'm undecided about running the 2 of co-driving with Will. I really want to run in his Miata, but I don't want AJ to win SMF at the end of the year. I should probably just co-drive with Will and learn a new car rather than running the 2 and getting most likely spanked my a MS3. Hopefully I'll have the MSP running for the last 3 or more events.

so are you saying you want everyone to come run in smf and try to beat aj?

lol, Not directly. I still need to score points somehow in SMF. I've only ran 2 of 3 events and need to get the car back out there and stop his shinanigans :)

Or don't be a pansy and drive your car.

Just have a back up plan for the worse case scenario. Have some extra money in the bank for broken parts and AAA for the tow home so you can enjoy the car without worrying. And that's pretty sad coming from ME of all people with my anxiety. I've got a spare motor and AAA and don't run the car unless I can afford to fix it. No point on worrying about breaking something or else it's just going to ruin the fun of the day.

In some ways it can be easier on hardware, but in other ways it is not.

Um... please explain how it is harder on hardware in any way?

(It's harder on body panels if you hit cones...)

(But then again, if you hit a wall that's harder than a cone...)

Miata in SMF?

Tell everybody it's a FWD conversion...

I'm not worried about breaking anything. I said I didn't want to autocross the MS3. I rather autocross the Miata. One of the reasons I rather autocross the Miata is that the MS3 is a new car and I rather not abuse it at autocross. There are many other reasons I rather autocross the Miata. I almost expect the Miata to break at autocross, that's why I want to go one closer than Toledo so I don't have a huge bill towing it home.

Ask my friend who shredded his diff at autocross. I have heard before, track day miles are about 100 times more stress than regular miles on a car, and autocross miles are about 1000 times more stress (these are obviously not scientific, but you get the point). You can disagree if you want, autocross definitely puts a car through hell.

I'm not disagreeing with auto-x or track days being rough on a car. But what's the point in buying the car, posting in an auto-x thread and not driving either of them?

You're going to break stuff. It's just a matter of what and how much it will cost to fix. You already know that though, it's not like you've never auto-x'ed before. But that's the way this game is, gotta pay to play. Or else I would just buy some R/C cars. :)

Of course it also depends on your driving style and how hard you are pushing the car. Someone driving smoothly and not trashing their motor on a track is going to put way less wear that someone riding on the rev limiter and driving like hell on an autocross track.
