Hi folks - Just another n00b here doing the deal. I found the forums by Google Search after visiting teh unnamed retail site. Dropped 3 bills on the WTS threads my first day = epic win.

I own MSP 2003.5 #702 in Titanium. I've been obsessing on the forum for about a week now figuring out how to get Google search to look-up info on this site ("cai bov nipple weld site:www.mazdas247.com"). This is a great site with great info.

My goal is to learn a lot and mod up and still pass smog in California - not many options, but I think I'm getting a plan after reading through the many posts.

Thx for reading and having a great forum!

"San Jose" Chris

Welcome to the forum! :D And yeah, searching this site through Google is VERY helpful.

Welcome to the family. What mods are allowed in cali? Do they do a sniff test? I'm sure an upgraded turbo, 626 mani and some type of stock looking exhaust should work. Get a split second and you can up the boost a little. Also a SMIC upgrade looks stock enough. Can you even do a FMIC conversion in cali?

There's a thread on this subject somewhere around here, but as far as I can tell, enginewise anything aftermarket is basically illegal, nice performance headlights - illegal, FMIC - illegal. Cops can write you nasty tix if the sound seems too loud to them. Turbo hiss = probable cause pull over. Even "CARB" approved can = ticket. What's a "sniff test?" Was that the time the po-po kept me on the side of the road for 20 mins while he sniffed under my hod with a flashlight? He failed to detect my obvious Injen.

Guess what - if you tint your front windows and figure you will just keep paying the tix - forget it - the CHiPs have magick "multiple offense" tickets that you can't just get rid of.

Thanks for teh welcome all - very cool!

Hey did i see ur ride the other night on 80W? Just curious. Welcome to the forum.
Thanks. Prolly not mine since I'm pretty much only in the HWY280 -> HWY85 corridor during the week - and (lame) passing on the right. I have only seen 1 other MSP in my three years of ownership. There was a titanium MSP with the front tint removed on HWY101/Shoreline one morning last year. Mid-twenties female driver. She took no notice even though I matched her side-by-side for a mile or so.

if there were boobs here id never leave.
^^^ = Epic - but then I'd be short-shifting my boost module in front of the 'puter all day (jerkit)! I draw the line at taking the laptop into the crapper with me so I can catch-up on "How-to" stickys. D'oh!

That's why you must stick to mods that retain a stock look.
Werd. Maybe I'll remove the spoiler and just risk VTA. Doubt I'd get any eyeballs -- there's like a billion import sedans in Silicon Valley and the MSP looks [ ] as hell without the spoiler. But wouldn't really look like an MSP tho so = fail.

What I mean by stock looking is, 626 mani since it's still an OEM part, upgraded SMIC with black hard pipes, have your turbo re-done with GT28RS internals, run a split second. and do whatever you can with the exhaust. that would be a great car
