The Buddyclub2 Body Kits for 01-03 Pro's

:
2002 Mazda, Protege 2.0 ES
hey ppl,

I was just wondering, if anyone owns a buddy club 2 body kit for their protege (specifically 3rd gen), and if they have encountered any problems so far.
Did it cost alot to have it fitted, were there alot of alterations made to get it to fit? How did it hold up to extreme weather changes like winter and summer? Do they break easier (being fibreglass)?
IMO its the best looking kit for the protege, but what am i sacrificing, in order to get some heads turned?

hey check out this story i was in iraq got some xtra doe and purchased a bc2 kit for my pro lx the sideskirts were no prob but the front clip needs a lot of fitting but the best part of it all is that they sent me a rear bumper for p5 i was wonderin why its so dam short so i called ground dynamics and they basically told me to piss up a rope so the final result they said sell it on ebay and come back to us for a new one ..hahaha.... so now i have a bumper in the garage and funds are low so yeah i feel your pain..its for sale if n e one is interrested .but it is a nice kit

that is one of my biggest worries. getting parts that are too small. its a damn shame that some of these companies give such bad service to tho.Yours isn't the first of such stories ive heard or read. Some business is built on rep, how the hell do they intend to stay in the game!

In any case, overall, im close to changing my mind on the bc2 kit! Too many factors to worry about, which sux ass...its such a beautifull piece! Way better than mazdaspeed imo!(sssh)

I guess I should put in my say, since Ive went through the rough times with my bc2 kit and now have it finshed.

My story.

I was a 16yr old who had just been lucky, my grandmother bought me my used pro lx. I loved the car and had many plans. I then got a job.

First was rims, 18s, to give me more height considering the body kit was going to be longer than the stock bumpers and where I live, its quiet "dippy". I then set my eyes on the bc2 kit. I was going to buy it from the bc2 website for 5 bills but I realized thats in florida so shipping was going to be like 200. I then found out the website sells the kits on ebay too but it came out to be 500 with shipping. I was waiting for another protege kit to pop up when I just went to a "auto restyling", as they like to call themselves, place. The guy convinced me to buy the bc2 kit from extreme dimensions. It was going to cost 850 and another 150 for them to put it on when they got it but as he said, "its a high quality body kit and its well worth the money." So I bought it.

When they got it, I dropped my car off for them to put it on.
4 hours later, they finished.

First things I noticed off the bat, Gaps, unevenness, dips, and SCREWS.
Gaps around the headlights, bumper didnt even with the lines of the fender, the bottom part of the back wasnt straight across like it was suppose to be, it dipped in the middle and my skirts were held in by 4 screws on both sides and didnt fit tightly against the car.

The installer told me all these things would be fixed at the paint shop. I was going to have it painted with the shop they were partners with, it was going to cost 550 then when I came back with money, they told me it was going to be more just because they didnt want to paint body kits so I said **** it. I found another place.

I found Clip Joint, had the guy check out my car and he right away told me that, no offense, but my bc2 kit was made very bad and whoever put it on clearly didnt know why the sun comes up.
Such problems with my kit were, premier was all scratch from shipping and installation, waves in the fiberglass, made very thin, fitted incorrectly, and not 100 percent symmetrical. To Fix all these problems and to paint it, 650.

I said fine and gave him my keys.
As the days went buy I got updates and suggestions. The bumpers were so much longer than the stock bumpers that the shook very easily and could crack the paint l8er on. so for another hundred or so, I had him reinforce the back so it wouldnt shake and I couldn't afford to do the front but also for another 50 or so he made fog light brackets for the fog lights I had in the small holes in the front.

The total came out to be 850 or so and he told me he couldn't do anything about how the skirts were attached because there was barely a lip on them so he painted over the screws so that they were less noticeable.

One full week later, I crack the bumper at work while pulling into my parking space going maybe a half mile an hour.

I didn't take any pictures to show but a chunk was missing from the side where it sticks down lower and my paint had cracked in several places and the bumper actually ripped underneath.

That was another 180 to fix and repaint.
So after about 2100 dollers, it still isn't perfect.

One, that "dip" in the back was only straightened a little bit because thats all he could do without ******* it up, two, the paint on the skirts are now cracked by the screws holding them in so I need new skirts, three, I still have a pinky size gap around my driver side headlight, four, I only have half of my splash guards on both sides because before I painted the kit, they detached from my bumper while I was on the freeway so they basically shredded away, and five, I have to constantly worry about dips and parking stops to hit my bumper because even the slightest movement can crack my paint and even the slightest bump can take another chunk out.

My car looks good to me, but not 2100 dollers worth good along with worrying.

Things I'd advise you of if you do get the kit...
DON'T buy from Extreme Diminsions(the place I bought mine from) and I wouldn't buy it from ground dynoamics or another other body kit site either, I'd buy it from Buddyclub2.com

Have the body shop thats going to paint it, install it, no place else unless you diy.

Realize, body kits are a lot thiner, and more breakable than stock bumpers, they're not made the same..

My status now, I am thinking about trashing the body kit and picking up another front stock bumper with a front air dam lip/picking up a mp3 bumper with the msp front lip and putting my rear stock bumper on with my stock 15s and buy the msp rear lip, side skirts, and then lowering it.

Hopefully you learned from my story.

i think all body kits need some extra attention. mine was all different types of kits, which i ordered only one kind. they pretty much told me i was sol too. most of them need some finishing like sanding and primer before bolting them on. i had to drill different holes and grind some areas so it would fit correctly. the buddy club kit looks good on lighter colored cars imo... its hard to make the proteges not look ricey with body kits. good luck though, most of the time they come out good.

I have the buddyclub2 kit on my car and i have had it on for some time now . The people who painted didnt do a great job . i mean it came out great when i got the car but after a while the clear started to peel off and so many minor stress cracks . I guess it is to be expected since it is fiberglass. well my car will be getting a full paint job hopefully in may . What i am thinking about doin is getting the msp/mp3 front bumper and keeping the sides and rear of the bc2 kit. I think i will get the dg lip also to even out the car.

XDj DubX I dont know if it is your paint or the sun . but in your sig you can tell your paint isnt 100% the same. Your front bumper is brighter white then the rest

Oh yeah, I forgot to put that part in my previous post, the paint shop was great but I guess they havn't heard of "color matching" so yeah, its not ur eyes or the picture or the comp, my body kit is a pure white and the car is an off white.

So sad.

Hey man, if you are interested, i suggest you check out the bc2 kit here: http://racerwheel.com/exterior-body-kits-mazda-protege-2001-2004-complete-kit.html They call it the b2 zen style kit but its the same thing, just much cheaper than any where else I have seen. As for your concerns, there are a few things to worry about the bc2 that you might wanna think about. My friend and I both put on my kit over the summer and we only had a few problems. The rear bumper fit absolutely perfect and wasn't much of a problem. The side skirts also wasn't an issue for us. We just used some double stick tape and two bolts on each side and the skirts feel like they are cemented on. The front bumper will be where your biggest problems are. The edges of the kit that go along the fender are very thin and putting bolts in there kind of leads to some nasty stress fractures. Also, right underneath the headlights is not designed perfectly and leaves a pretty significant gap, maybe like a quarter inch between headlight and bumper. Other than that, all you have to worry about is the stress fractures that are unavoidable as it is fiberglass. Most are insignificant. In my opinion it is a great body kit that makes the Protege look amazing. If you drive rather carefully, you shouldn't have that big a problem. Any questions, just ask away.....

i didnt read what everyone else said, but im from where they make the bc2 kits and the brother of the owner said that the quality of the company has been going downhill.. it is a cheap kit, and the front will scrape if you plan to lower your car. the sides look alrite, but the back looks like ass in my opinion.

s***!...there goes that idea entirely! The thing i like about the bc2 kit is the rear bumper! I really dont like the mazdaspeed front bumper, not a big fan of huge foglights! Jus looking for something a little cleaner!

What other decent kits actually fit the Protege?

This is the kit i originally saw before the buddy club. I love the front end of this one...the whole kit really, but...im not experienced enough to deal with the concerns u brought up! Id be the guy to take it to a shop and get screwed over!
But this kit i really like! I dont use the low fog lights so there goes that, just mesh on there, and the rest is perfect. The area i live in is pretty "dippy" as well so im really worried about denting. Since it is a daily driven car, you could see why id be concerned! but the price for the kit...tho perfect...why so cheap!? Is it really a case of getting what you paid for?

You could just get the deletes for the fogs which is pretty much the same as the honeycomb in your grill and add an autoexe lip

I can only speak for myself.

I like it I've had only the front bumper for a long time now and it's held up. It's even been snaded and painted twice and one vent was ripped off and put back on and it still looks new and to some stock. Only thing i don't like is the bumper has quite a few pits you see after you paint it. but you could also fix that if your that into your car. By far probably best looking Front bumper.

It scrapes some curbs already and I'm at stock height. But it only scrapes under the bumper so it doesn't bother me.

Tylor

ive just decided that actually. Thinking of getting the msp/mp3 front end, deletes on the fog lights, and bc2's rear end look alike, and msp skirts! lol...lot of mix and match, sound feasible so far? Im also working on stiching my avatar (the bat symbol on the mazda symbol) into my head rests, after i turn my interior red =D

One more thing...is there any way to make a kit more rigid. I work for a spray foam company, and i was thinking of applying a layer of that stuff to make the kit more stiff! Any other ways?
