The 2nd MS6 Build-a-Beast in the country!!!

:
2006 Mazdaspeed 6
Finally I am on the home stretch with this entire ordeal. To give you a brief history with my situation, I had thrown a rod through cylinder 1 last october. My mods were:
CPE STANDBACK, CPE CATTED DP, CPE SINGLE EXHAUST, CPE FRONT MOUNT, CPE ENGINE MOUNT, ETC.

The engine failure happened about 1 week after I installed the front mount. Not to say this was the cause, just stating the facts. The engine detonated at a low rpm, about 4k and at a low gear and speed. It was a mystery so to speak but the evidence showed a piston that had a hairline fracture all the way down the center creating 2 halves, and a rod exiting the block which is obvious in the pictures.

Since this I have purchased a brand new built block from protege garage, with arias pistons and pauter rods. A brand new head from mazda, the only one in the country at the time. The valves were damaged and I decided not to take any chances with a rebuilt head. The atp turbo kit gt3071r, upgraded fuel pump from protege garage, spec stage 2 clutch, and upgraded my standback to V2.

The car was started yesterday and she sounded amazing. Idles like stock but the exhaust you have to hear to believe. There is a gurgle that doesn't speak "I AM STOCK". And obviously she doesn't smoke like she used to because I have a very well built turbo now and not the factory K04 that i'm convinced has faulty seals on every single speed6. You are just never able to tell on stock vehicles because of the 3 cats that conceal this.

The builder is adjusting the clutch today and I should be driving this tomorrow after he takes it out and tests the AFR's so I can break it in before we slap it on his mustang dyno for tuning. On this dyno, stock pre-2008 subaru STI's put down 220 wheel hp. My car with all the bolt ons before the failure put down 235 wheel hp and 260 tq. I am hoping for 350 wheel which will make her produce 425 hp at the crank. That should be good enought to tackle new M3's, rs4's and hang with r8's and 5th-gen 420hp 911 turbos.

Any input you guys have on my build or advice, I appreciate greatly. Please reply and i'll answer any questions you may have. Thanks.

Wow, just wow.....subscribed to this thread. Good luck and keep us posted!

thing is gonna be a monster... hopefully you have a lot better luck that the guy who orginially did this!!!! By the way that engine bay looks killer and is the exact same way Im doing mine at this current point.

Looks really good. You should talk to CPE...Maybe they will let ya beta test the Flash on your ride.

looks awesome. very very similar to my setup, although i've got the spec stage 3.

what made you go with the stage 2 clutch?

I actually have the stage 2+. It is good for 415 ft/lbs of torque. The stage 3 is a 6-puck and good for 470 ft/lbs which is more torque than the new GTR makes. I saved some money and went with the next step down, for a less harsh engagement with consideration to factory drivetrain components.

My stage 3 isn't a 6 puck? i wouldn't think the speed6 is much different, if different at all

Not knocking on you. the 3071r won't push more than 400wtq or so. Best of luck to you. I've done it all, so if you have questions I'm definitely here to help.

the stage 3+ is not a 6 puck, the regular stage 3 is and will not hold 320awhp for very long. the stage 3+ will hold much more power and give a more street-able feel

aye this is true

i have been eager to see the fruits of this build since we sold the built block on this project :) going with the new head on this build i think is critical and is something that was sadly not done on the first 'build a beast' thread. subbing for future results.

Today is the day I pick up the car. I got a call last night saying everything is a go. No oil leaks, AFR's are in the low 11's and high 10's. The builder does more subarus than anyone in this area and we know what torque monsters those are, matter fact there is an 07 sti up there that spun 350 whp the other day. My mechanic came right out and said that this turbo is the perfect size, and one of the best he's seen in a long time. He obviously couldn't really get on it, but just from taking it for a spin he said it pulls viscously and he can't wait to tune it. I called Jordan yesterday at CP-E and he says the flash is a couple weeks out but will resolve the throttle plate closing at 5500 rpm. Other than that i'll keep you guys posted. There will obviously be a dyno video next week some time because I am breaking her in this weekend.

I have the same rims you do, the OZ ultraleggeras. I was thinking about getting rotoras because they have a bigger looking caliper and I can get them in blue, but my question is did your brembos not fit with those wheels which is why you have hub spacers? and if so how are they and where did you buy them?
