Test pipe dyno anywhere to be found?

Has anyone ever seen a dyno of an MS3 with just an intake and a test pipe? I have the intake, I'm looking for inexpensive ways to bump up the fun factor. Just how much measured (no seat of the pants dynos, please) gain is there from a test pipe with an otherwise stock exhaust?

I think there are guys over on that other board that has speed in its name that have done dyno pulls with intake and test pipe mods alone. My recollection is that the test pipe will help, but it's not dramatic - range would be 5-10 whp., mostly in under the curve midrange power bump. Cat #2 is restrictive and this will fix that.

It sounds like unless I make other mods that need the increased flow capacity it isn't worth it. I'll keep thinking, I guess.
Thanks.

I'm in the same boat as you (just a cai) but I am thinking the test pipe may be worth it. Only one way to find out... and it ain't on the Internet!
A good test pipe should have a decent resale value if you don't like it.

Well if I can remember correctly, back in August, IL members had a dyno-day... one car with SRI/TIP, BPV made 245 or so. Another with SRI/TIP, BPV, 2.5" resonated TP made something in the 260's... and in the 290's for torque.

Do you happen to know if the second car was tuned?

A race/test pipe should definitely help the car breathe better but would really be beneficial once you open up the front end (SRI or CAI and a TIP).

I just put my race pipe in today. Sounds a bit deeper but on the high rpms there's some rasp for sure. 2010 MS3

worth it. find a used one or go on ebay (remember its just a ss tube). the power gained is throughout the powerband and higher under the curve, and peak HP isn't a huge difference so companies don't really post too much about it (shouldn't look at peak HP when choosing mods anyway) but your ass can tell once it's installed.

The power gain to me was almost as significant as adding an intake. You will benefit from a TP, even with just an intake. Obviously not as much as doing the downpipe too, but the power gain is definitely there. The car sounds better too. Definitely worth the $100-150. There is no other mod for this car, besides an intake that gives you that amount of hp per dollar spent.

I'll have to agree, I haven't dyno'd the car yet as I don't see the point in spending 60$ on a simple mod. But the butt-dyno can tell a difference, the car breathes better, and sounds pretty mean.

I'm sure it'll push a bit hard when I get my intake in soon.

I just had a race pipe installed today and was a little disappointed that I didn't feel any power difference. Nothing like the difference I felt after installing the CAI. Maybe it spooled up a little faster down low, but not enough to really notice. I had the stock size rp installed and the only other mod I have is a cp-e cai. i also had the last resonator removed and the exhaust sounds more aggressive. Also, I am glad I didn't try and install it myself because I watched them do it and without a lift it would have been a real pain. They used the original bolts with the springs because they said they would flex, unlike the ones that came with the rp. Save your money on some other mod.

You're talking about two mods that are night and day in performance. The race pipe will deepen the tone and maybe yield 5whp (can you really feel that? If you can, then I'm impressed). It's more of a complimentary mod to your exhaust system and simply allowing the system to breath easier.

The CAI and the downpipe really push you back in the seat. You'll enjoy those.

I'm confused. Which one is it? You can really feel a difference or you'd be surprised if someone could?

A test pipe should net you a feelable and good gain. Around 10 whp or so I would say. Helps the turbo spool up quicker too. I've heard somewhere (don't quote me on this) that a test pipe will actually gain you more whp than a down pipe will. Of course the combo is going to do a lot more than either piece by themselves.

I could feel the difference via the butt dyno when I added the racepipe. But I'm not sure if it was 10whp. Downpipe by design will net you more whp/tq than a Racepipe. I've never seen the opposite.
