I had the day off for President's Day and decided I would go and test drive the new CX-5. They didn't have a 2014 AWD on the lot, the test drive car was FWD touring. I figured that from a driving perspective it wasn't going to matter since the AWD wouldn't kick in in the driving conditions today (if it is true that that AWD only kicks in when needed as the sales person said).

Took it on Mopac, that thing got up to 80 without me noticing. A very smooth ride and better than I expected. I was very impressed with the electronic steering, the last Mazda I drove was a Mazda 3 with the hydraulic steering so I was a bit concerned about the steering feel. Needless to say I was very impressed.

My only complaint was the drivers seat doesn't go back as far I as I would like, thankfully with the steering wheel adjustment I wasn't uncomfortable but being 6'4 I wonder how my legs would feel after a much longer drive. I mean my little accent the seat goes back further and while no one can sit behind me my legs have plenty of stretch room. I am sure if I adjusting the seat better I would be okay. Having not driven any other CUV's I wonder if the other CUVs also don't go back as far.

We took Mopac all the way downtown and look Lamar back up to the dealer so I got both city and highway driving. I loved the driving experience. The thing shifted gears flawlessly. Mind you that ANY car would be better than my current vehicle. I bought my current car because it was cheap and I jumped the gun when I bought it 5 years ago.

I have done the research, for all the things you get in the CX-5 AWD for the price I won't be able to get another CUV in that price with all the features and the same size engine. I have never driven a vehicle with a CVT transmission, I might go test drive a Subaru just to see how I feel about it. This is a huge decision, how soon I make it will depend on the bonus amount. Should get our checks the first week of March.

This is the first time that I have the ability to buy what I want (within reason) and also I am not in a position where I am without a car and and freaking out about how I am going to get to work (i.e. the situation I was in when I bought this little Accent). I want to continue to doing research, I am certainly biased from a personal preference to the CX-5 and glad I went and drove one. Will keep reading this site and watching the local inventory.
