Test Drove an MSP...

I posted this on ProtegeClub before finding the MSProtege Forum, so maybe I can get input from both Forums...

I was at my car dealership last night (Fairbanks Mazda - Coconut Creek, FL) for my Protege5, and I decided to check out the latest offerings.

Well, They had the 6, and the MSP.

Previous to my Protege5, I had a 1999 Ford Taurus, and the 2 things I loved about it were the room and the power. I moved down in size, and somewhat in power when I got the Protege5, but discovered that a compact car is awesome, and the Protege's, although compact have alot of roominess to them.

Well, I checked out the 6, slightly pricey for the options I want, and too big for me (go figure), Plus I prefer the Protege5 interior to the 6's.

So, I talked to the salesperson (he wasn't too bad, not too pushy), and I started checking out the Mica Orange MSP up front. I love the rims, and especially love the stereo.

He asked me if I wanted to take it for a test drive, and I told him I barely know stick, so he tells me he will teach me.

So I basically got a lession on this brand new MSP, and not once did it stall out, no matter how hard I sucked at it.

I meant to go back last night and buy it, but it got late quickly.

I am seriously considering it this weekend. Although, I have a few concerns/comments.

The Stereo has everything I can ask for, so I wouldn't need to upgrade this.

The car has turbo, which I wanted to do down the line anyway.

The rims (once again) rock.

The foot pedals (similar to ones I found on E-Bay, which I wanted), are awesome as well.

Everything else is kickass too.

Insurance would only go up 150 USD (19/m/SoFL)

So, the concern is this:

2 Colors, of those two, I think I would be able to deal with the Mica Orange, although Laser Blue would be dream.

And manual, yes, something like this should be manual, it's just a matter of me getting used to it.

This car would be driven about 20-30 miles/day, and I would keep it throughout the life of the loan, I want to keep extra costs as low as possible.

As far as financing goes, preliminary research shows I can trade mine in now (mint condition/7500 miles/no modifications), and only have to extend my loan a year or so to compensate for the purchase.

The trade in value for my car, in its condition (Kelly Blue Book) is about 11,700 USD.

The total value for my car is about 15,700 USD (Kelly Blue Book).

So, this kind of turned into a rambling post, but can I get some input from anybody?

Also, since I am new, I shall take this time to say hello to everyone!

Umm as far as the color, it's limited to Spicy Orange, or Black Mica. No blue, sorry...That was the MP3. Yeah, everything on the car is awsome stock, and the 5 speed is VERY easy to get used to..I'm not exactly sure what else you were looking for, because you sound pretty set on getting the car. I've had mine for a little over a month, and I am very pleased with the car.

You will get answers soon. If I had the time, I would do it, but since I don't, I have one question for you...

"Do ya love tha kids?" LOL!!! Sorry, couldn't resist!

Note: This joke came from a song with Trick Daddy where he says, "Trick Love tha Kids!"

Sure do...

Trick is actually a shortened form of Patrick... but that was creative...

I would have also gone for something along the lines of "Make em say uh!"

Kool, that's my name too!

MSP is an awesome car for the money, and you get a whole lot of looks! it is the most fun car I have ever driven, except my moms 3 series BMW but what can i say.. The MSP handles almost as nice which is UNREAL. good luck with whatever you get.. I have 350 miles on my MSP and have had it since last thursday :) 6 days.. haha i love it.

funny, I've driven a few 325i's and I prefer the handling of the mp3 over all of them.

Yes, the bimmer is smoother, but as for body roll, and grip, the mp3/msp kick ass.

To stick to the actual topic. I think you will be very happy with the speed. i don't think anyone doesn't like it once they own one, or regrets buying it or an mp3 even.

I am very surprised that the dealer let you test drive it, yet alone test drive it without knowing how to drive a stick.

Bid day...

Tonight I'm going to Mazda to see what they can do for me... Stay tuned!

Patrick,
I traded my 2002.5 P5 in with 5K miles on it and it was in mint condition to get the MSP and was given a trade in value of 10K USD. The diff was alot, so it was necessary to put some money down to compensate for a lower monthly payment. Yes, the loan went an extra year and yes, there was now interest on the loan - whereas, my original didn't. Hope this helps.

No go...

They wanted about 1,800 USD down, and payments were around 500 USD/month, so, needless to say, it wasn't for me.

Maybe sometime in the future things will change, I can only hope.

i bought a blue mp3 in october 2002. I had it for about three and a half months and 4500 miles. the dealer told me that they were coming out with the msp and that they would buy back my blue mp3 for what i owed and put me in a p5 until the msp came out. which was supposed to be about five months. I ended up haveing the p5 for a year an 12500 miles. when I went to pick up my msp they tried to give me $10500 for my p5. after about three hours of talking back and forth they gave me $14000 for my p5. I knew the owner of the mazda dealer but don't let them try to rip you off on your trade in!!!! good luck the msp is great. I love mine:)
