Test drove a SRT-4...

SRT4 = Neon

The 8's out handles both though :)

I got myself an 8 this summer - absolutely love it. It will blow the doors off 98% of the stuff out there (including an STi if driven right)

Dude!! Put down the crack pipe!! I'm gonna let the "my RWD car outhandles 2 AWD cars" quote because, well, it's not THAT far fetched. (though you're still wrong... for reaons far greater than what drivetrain they have) Nonetheless, I like the RX8. Awkward profile but, overall, amazing car! (though I read they average like 18 MPG) any truth to that? for a car with such a small engine... that would piss me off! Anyway, how the hell can you say you'll blow the doors off an STi if driven right??? LOL come on man!!! come back to earth for a minute here! Your car is nice and all... a million times better than my MSP (give or take a couple thousand) but to compare your car favorably with an Sti??? have you SEEN their numbers??? LOL While you're running in the high 6 to low 7 range (respectable.. I guess) they're in the mid 5's (0-60 wise at least) quarter mile's even more dramatic of a difference.

Sorry dude... still think you made a good choice since the STi is ugly and doesn't have the "style" or overall originality level the RX8 has... but it definitely takes a backseat to it in regards to performance.

HP/Torque of an RX-8?

Stock RX-8 (manual) 238HP @ 8500 RPM, torque 159 @ 5500 RPM.

Redline at 9000RPM.

However, the power is limited because of the US-specific ECU flash that Mazda did to comply with cat converter life regulations.

There's a $500 mod[/url developed for the car to get you 20-25HP gain (here's one [url=http://www.rx8club.com/showthread.php?threadid=18178]dyno plot of rwhp). Mind you, RX-8 cannot be properly dyno'd due to ECU going to rich mode if it detects front wheels stopped and rear wheels turning. People still try anyway :)

159Lb/Ft.@5500 RPM

Very weak torque rating if you ask me.

An 89-91 N/A RX-7 produced 160HP and 140lb ft. torque. That is a much more usable power band.

You have to abuse the crap out of the clutch on an RX-8 to get a fast launch. Don't get me wrong...it's a nice looking car, but it really needs a turbocharger to give it some more low end grunt.

I honestly doubt it would take an EVO or an STI unless they had really crappy drivers behind the wheel. Look at the torque and HP curves on the EVO and STI and you will see that they are much better than the RX-8.

Yes - I got owned with the Neon/GM oops... - too early for me.

As for the MPG of the 8 - well - it sucks

I get about 15 if I push it for 2 miles with the engine off....

I didn't get the car for the mileage though

what's up with the shity gas mileage??? I mean, a 1.3 liter is giving you 15mpg???? that's just wrong!!

Mazda still has a winner... but they'd have an absolute juggernaught if A) they figuered out a way to give it decent (at least competitive) gas mileage B) more power!!! (can anyone say turbo?) and C) that C-pillar (one on the back window) should have come in a different color than the car itself. I realize why they need it to be where it is and as wide as it is... but it just makes the car look strange. How sick would it look if you had a red one with dark tints and a black c-pillar? it would give the illusion that the windows wrap around the entire car... someone photoshop this/already know it would look sweet!

anyway... like I said, you still made a good choice. show me a perfect car and I'll stil find something wrong with it. still can't beat an Sti though! lol
