Test drive on Monday, a few questions

Hello.

Since the dealers near me, now seem to have a few o7,s in stock, on Monday I will be going for a test drive.
I have decided on an auto mazda5, so for the test drive it wont make any difference what year I am test driving on, as long as it will be an automatic.
I have a few questions, on options available with the car.

1) The remote start.

a) I realize its a dealer installed option. Is there a big chance of a dealer installed option being a botch job.
I dont know what entails converting it from one to the other, but am I better off leaving well enough alone?
b) Can someone explain how it works? I hit the fob, and the car starts. Does the doors open up automatically, and do I eventually have to insert the key, because on the mazda web site, it says something about the engine shutting off after fifteen minutes.
Once I have the car started and the engine running, can I just leave the fob in my pocket?
How do you shut off engine if key not needing to be in engine?

2) All weather mats or all weather carpeting

ARe the ones Mazda has to offer any good, or would I be better off, ordering after market? The ones that came with my acura tl as an option are excellent.

3) The rear cargo cover.

Any downside to this, or reason for not having.
I usually keep a milk crate filled with stuff in the back of my car, plus some personal articles including military gear, and dont need any prying eyes. Any options?

4) My wife likes that stellar greensilver metallic. Any reason for not getting that color? (I know my limitations and will not fight the wife on the color, LOL) However she doesnt minds that galaxy grey mica color either.

Thanks to all , stay safe

Don't know personally :-)

I have the Mazda mats in my 3 and 5 and they work well (I'm in MA, so we get pretty snowy/slushy winters). They also fit a lot better than teh MacNeil mats I used to have in my 3. The MacNeil mats do hold more liquid, but they also don't offer a perfect fit. The Mazda Matts are also about half the price for 4. The key of course is to make sure you knock excess snow/slush off your boots before entering the car.

3) The rear cargo cover.

The only problem with the cover is where to put it when you're not using it. You would need to fold down the seats and put it in lengthwise.

My wife also like the Greensilver intitially. But then she realized that it maybe too much of a "fad" color. She went with the Red (which is no longer available).

People either love or hate the greensilver. But - it is a definite get noticed color. I drove one for a week while mine was in the shop and I had tons of comments on it. But, I bought the Carbon Grey (which they don't have anymore though the galaxy looks close) and I love it - in my mind the green looked a little too mini-van and the darker colors are sportier.

And make sure you see the green in person. It looks very very different IRL than on the web and in the brochure.

Mazda Now supports its own car starter with original fob style... I can get partnumber if you need it.
I dont know what entails converting it from one to the other, but am I better off leaving well enough alone? Auto start is ok if you like have super cold days and want to heat it up... b) Can someone explain how it works? I hit the fob, and the car starts YES.Does the doors open up automatically, and do I eventually have to insert the key, because on the mazda web site, it says something about the engine shutting off after fifteen minutes OK DOORS LOCK AUTOMATICALLY SO NOBODY STEALS YOUR CAR... YES IT WILL AUTO SHUT OFF AND THAT IS USER DEFINED.
Once I have the car started and the engine running, can I just leave the fob in my pocket? YES UNTIL YOU WANT TO DRIVE OFF
How do you shut off engine if key not needing to be in engine? BRAKE PEDAL PUSH DOES IT

2) All weather mats or all weather carpeting

ALL WEATHER MATS ROCK JUST REMOVE PRESENT CARPET MATS
3) The rear cargo cover.

Any downside to this, or reason for not having.
I usually keep a milk crate filled with stuff in the back of my car, plus some personal articles including military gear, and dont need any prying eyes. Any options? Second option is to tint

4) My wife likes that stellar greensilver metallic. Any reason for not getting that color? (I know my limitations and will not fight the wife on the color, LOL) However she doesnt minds that galaxy grey mica color either. I'm not the best to ask but GreenSilver is also discontinued if I am not wrong... it looks like toothpaste specially under neon lights

Sorry for not understanding your answer, but appreciate the time. In relationship to the remote start. Do you mean, the fob starts the car, and then when I want to move the vehicle, I need to insert the key, I cant drive without the key in ignition? But then you say, to shut off engine you hit the brake pedal... Does that mean, I need the key in ignition to move the car, but if I decide not to move the car, and want to shut off motor, I hit the brake pedal and the motor shuts down. Sort of like a theft deterrent. Please tell me if I have this correct.

Much thanks

All weather mats:
We've got ours and they fit perfectly once we had the original mats removed as previously suggested. However bear in mind that the all weather mats only cover the driver/front passenger areas and the second row. That leaves the gap between the two second row seats and the little floor space on the third row uncovered. Also, the grooves on the Mazda mats are not very deep so I doubt if they can handle the slush that we have here in Toronto.

Cargo space:
It sounds like you will have the third row folded to make space for everything that you mentioned. I don't think you can fit even a milk crate in the trunk space if you have the seats up.

Do you mean, the fob starts the car, and then when I want to move the vehicle, I need to insert the key, I cant drive without the key in ignition? It is a new fob which looks like the old one but with a autostart button addition But then you say, to shut off engine you hit the brake pedal... Does that mean, I need the key in ignition to move the car, but if I decide not to move the car, and want to shut off motor, I hit the brake pedal and the motor shuts down Also your new fob can shut off the car. Sort of like a theft deterrent. Please tell me if I have this correct.

I was trying to find you a link for the new fob but can't locate it at this time... I think it is a combo like below but I have seen a single fob with extra buttons

I'm a new owner with remote start and NAV

Yo,

That pic is the remote start fob and the key. If you hit the fob once it acts as a locator and the car will honk and lights will flash five times. If you hit it twice it will start the car from 500 yards! I don't think it has any effect on the lock. Once car is remote started, if you step on brake it stops engine. Therefore, you must immediately put car in ignition and turn on, then you can hit brake and drive off. And yes, I think it will also turn off after 15 min if you don't put in the key.

Mats....dunno, and I live in SF, CA where weather is always 60 degrees year round.

The cargo cover, like most cars, has nowhere to store when not in use. You have to store in garage. I just tinted out my back windows to 5% and will cover stuff with a blanket.

As for color, black white and gray or silver (not green silver) are classic and have the best resale value.

Cheers!
