TEIN SS Coilovers

is this a mazdaspeed 3 specific kit that theyre making finally? Or did u use the mz3 tein kit?

yes, it is the mazdaspeed3 specific kit. my car was the test car with the new spring rates

What are the spring rates on the mazdaspeed3 specific kit? I was planning on doing the mazda 3 kit with upgraded front springs, but depending on the rates of the mazdaspeed3 kit, I may have to do that instead.

Why would Tein, a Japanese based company (please correct me if I'm wrong) use a US third party private owner to test their new coilover kit prototype? Are you testing for a vendor out there in So Cal? Just figured like COBB who is US local would have testing done locally at their facility. Please shed some light :)

I don't think TEIN USA is a private third party owner according to the TEIN website, it is another facility of TEIN Japanese. It is the same thing as why Honda would test their Civic in the USA or any other part of the world besides Japan. Just my thoughts.

yeah but what I'm getting at is why would they contact a 3rd party private ms3 owner like JLO. I wasnt talking about Tein USA.

Thats like COBB saying hey harry, can we borrow your car as a guinea pig to test our new coilovers. I know a lot of the smaller companies do that cuz u see it on here, but i figured a big boy like Tein, who in my eyes is larger than COBB would do their own testing.

I was just curious, its neither here nor there for me, im quite happy with the 32way adjustable BCs.

Pics are dope, love the drop.

nice dude love the drop n e problems w/ the camber on the rear wheels? i had tien s-tecs on my old scion and the rear tires were really bad !!!

Your car is looks really good. I would also like to know the spring rate; also do the dampers have rebound and compresion settings sepretly or are they only single adjustable like the mz3 coilovers?

Tein USA does that for alot of cars, I'm pretty sure they have a section of vehicles they need to borrow for development.

well think about this, TEIN USA also sells Fujitsubo exhausts, DEFI gauges, etc. look on their website. when i went in to pick up my car, they had a 07+ 350z there that they just fitted a Legalis system to. now why would they do that when they have Zs in japan? well maybe they wanted to get right down to the cars that their products are gonna be put on.

as for a "new" coilover kit prototype, these coilovers are already available for the 04+ mazda3 hatch, which uses practically the same suspension, save for different springs, sways, etc. so there's no reason to develop a completely new kit because they're almost identical except for the spring rates.

i'm not the one carrying out the "testing" on the coilovers...TEIN does this inhouse, with their own driver. what they did pretty much was fit new spring rates on, test to see if vehicle dynamics are improved or not.

i don't have rear camber links on, so my tires will probably get worn down.

spring rates...i have no idea what they are. they didn't really tell me.

Super Street coilovers are rebound and compression adjusted equally at the same time (16-way)

Hey I was going to put my MOCC stickers there too lol! Anyways, your car is sick! Love the rims and the drop.

If you look at the Tein website, they now list the mazdaspeed 3 SS coilovers on their parts list. All of the components of the MS3 kit have the exact same part numbers as the mazda 3 ones. I'm pretty sure they will be exactly the same kit. The shop I am working with is a Tein dealer, and spoke with Tein about this. They were told that the coilovers are indeed the same as the mazda 3 version. They just couldn't officially sell it as an MS3 kit because it hadn't been fully tested on the MS3.

When we called and ordered my coilovers they didn't have the MS3 ones for sale yet, so they told us to order the mazda 3 ones and put an 8kg spring on the front, and it would be essentially the same, if not an improvement over what they will be selling as the MS3 specific kit.

EDFC compatible? Yes. Huge improvement over stock? Yes. Much different than the Mazda 3 kit?? Not at all.

The EDFC kit specifically allows you to adjust the damping force of the suspension, either all at once, or front and rear separately.

Straight from the Tein website: "The EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller) makes it possible for the driver to control the damping force at the touch of a button while in the driver's seat. This is accomplished by controlling stepping motors installed on each shock absorber. Because the damping force can be controlled with such ease, the driver can adjust the suspension to suit all road/track conditions. Thus allowing the driver to fully enjoy the driving experience."

"Additional Features for EDFC Control Unit:
Compact 1/4 DIN size
3 Presets for Quick Adjustments
Separately adjustable for front and rear
Ability to use switch between 16 and 32 way adjustment
Illumination for ease of use at night
Variable Illumination control
Variable Volume control"

For the Tein SS coilovers themselves, here is the description:

"TEIN Super Street damper kit was designed for drivers seeking improved handling on the street and at the track. A shortened shell case is utilized to allow the most piston stroke possible, which allows for a better ride at lowered ride heights, and increased grip at the track. Great for daily driving and occasion track use, whether it be at the drag strip, local circuit, or Auto-X course. Includes both ride height and damping force adjustment to allow the driver to dial in the suspension for various surface conditions."

"Additional Features:
Steel Construction
Twin Tube internal construction
16 way adjustable dampers, compression and rebound combined
Ride Height adjustable via spring seat
Larger piston diameter for strut type front and rear (22mm)
Powder coated damper body with Zinc coated threaded section
1-year Manufacturers Defect Warranty
Available for Overhaul"
