Tech Help: What problem am I having? *Urgent*

Couple weeks ago I wanted to reinstall my OS so I have a cleaner OS. Ever since then, my computer is starting to have problems. Basically, the problems I'm having are BSOD or random reboots. These all got started when I reinstall the OS with XP Pro + SP1, my computer would randomly reboot (once during the installation), or else I'd get BSOD (stuff like DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL). My computer is currently OC by 5% with Asus SmartAI OCer. I've this set up running for almost a year w/o any problems, but all of sudden now. I'm suspecting it's the SP1 that's possibily causing my hardware incompatability; thus, all the IRQ or other conflicts began to occur.

The reason I put urgent is because I can hardly use the computer at all. :(

Things I've done/used:
Windows Update
Original Driver OR latest driver
Default my BIOS settings
Swap the RAM with each other
memtest86+ passed all 12 tests with no errors
Virus scan & ad-aware scan -- none

Thanks

Is it a clean version of XP, i mean did you buy it? How did you reboot your system? Did you reformat, or did you wipe it clean and run off a boot disk?

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

This problem can be caused by:

1. A damaged Virtual Memory Manager Page file.

2. A faulty RAM (memory) module.

3. A RAM module that is NOT compatible with the computers chip set.

If you are sure ram is not the problem do this, in these steps

01. Right-click My Computer and press Properties.

02. Select the Advanced tab.

03. Press the Settings button under Performance.

04. Select the Advanced tab.

05. Press the Change button under Virtual memory.

06. Select No paging file and press the Set button. Press Yes if prompted.

07. Press OK, OK, and OK.

08. Shutdown and restart your computer.

09. Right-click My Computer and press Properties.

10. Select the Advanced tab.

11. Press the Settings button under Performance.

12. Select the Advanced tab.

13. Press the Change button under Virtual memory.

14. Select System Managed size and press the Set button. Press Yes if prompted.

15. Press OK, OK, and OK.

16. Shutdown and restart your computer.

If this doesnt work , there are more problems, but the random boot ups and things, arnt usually from bad paging files, so my guess it could possibly be your ram. I am going with 70% it is your ram.

It is weird how sometimes things like that just go out.

from the way its acting i would guess it is a driver or bios problem. but i am a noob at that stuff.

I mean it could be a driver, but highly unlikely, but if you want to check, start in safe mode, then roll back most of your drivers. or make sure they are updated.

You perhaps dont have your video card overclocked do you?

my computer randomly reboots itself...because of that, im pretty sure that ur problem might be similar in nature...its most likely a software issue...

I doubt it's driver problem because I used the drivers that came with the mobo (it worked before too w/o any problems) and I've tried using the latest as well, but no luck. BIOS? highly unlikely, because I've updated my BIOS once and that was when I got the mobo. I didn't have problem back then, why now? :P

I don't have my video card OC.

Ghost, what's the purpose of changing it to "No Page File"? Just curious...

I never touched any of the hardware except when the problem occured, so I swap the RAM with each other to see if that'll fix it. So, I'm suspecting it's the software that's causing the problem. In fact, I'm highly suspecting it's SP1 because I don't seem to have problem with my XP CD (the one w/o SP1 installed), yet I do have problem with XP+SP1. I was guessing maybe it's because some generic driver or system file that SP1 came with that's incompatible with my hardware, or somehow altered my IRQ and screw up it.

I appreciate you guys helping me out...~~ >_<

have you tried to wipe it clean again, and install the normal copy without sp1, then after you get it up and running, do you windows update, and install your new sp1 and everything from there. Just my thought. You prabably tried this but try just using one stick of ram, and if it doesnt work switch it around. I mean it doesnt sound like a driver problem. That error comes up alot if there is a memory problem. But it comes up alot during other things too. It is a very general error. It is kinda hard to dwindle it all down. I mean i could go on and on about changing your IRQ requests for every piece of hardware, and enabling ACPI. And then enabling IRQ numbers to your USB devices, I mean there are so many different options it could be. I am sorry i couldnt be of more of a assistance, but i just think it would be easier to just nuke it then boot it again, with the non SP1 disk. Then a windows update, and if this does not work , i would have to say it is a hardware issue or bios.

Sorry again, I hope I helped a little

I've tried reinstall several times but it's all the same. And, the big problem I'm having right now is that I don't have an XP w/o SP1 with me.

only time I had this problem was when

1. Overclocking beyond what my fsb could handle
2. troubles with an addon ata133 controller that could not handle the fsb of 133...older machine.

When you don't overclock, does it bsod?

What motherboard do you have. If it's the Asus P4S8X then that's the problem - worst motherboard made in the history of mankind and Asus just ******* abandonded anybody who bought it. I'm sure other Asus boards have that same problem too. So what do you got?

I had this same issue as you and it was related to my AGP card --- try slowing your AGP card down to 2x and see if it helps.

When I don't OC, I still get random reboot, sometimes BSOD.

My mobo is Asus P4P800 Deluxe

Check out www.abxzone.com -- they'll have a section specific to your motherboard and there will surely be people that have had your same issue. It's a great asus resource.
