Tallest 17" tire for the CX-5?

I don't recall any condescending behavior or name-calling towards OP either. Just shock over his decision.

I still don't see a single name calling incident through this entire thread. It all seems like healthy and enlightening discussion for me. I'm so confused.

Sure - follow the advice of some schmoe on a forum over actual technical specifications of tire manufacturers, just because it fits what you already wanted to do.

And I’d be perfectly willing to call the people doing it “dangerous and stupid” to their faces.

Note that the general warning was for name-calling and condescending behaviour - while it may seem borderline or harmless to you, it was offensive to others. Additionally, sometimes moderators notice trends in the discussion that can devolve into negative behaviour, and moderator warnings/reminders are posted just to help steer the conversation back to a good place.

Yes it was excessive, but it was done in good faith. OP's idea sounds awful, and many of us were doing the right thing by giving him solid facts and supporting information to try and talk him out of it.

In my mind, that's what a forum with solid advice and contribution should be about, both good or bad. OP came here seeking validation and asked you to close the thread when he didn't get it.

I'm glad you recognize the problematic behaviour now. Whether it was done in good faith is debatable, because people took offense and reported these posts, among others. It is never acceptable to resort to negative name-calling or condescending comments towards other members just to try to get your point across.

While I personally agree with the advice provided, and appreciate the information supporting the advice, the issue is the delivery. Presenting advice/information/an opinion in a negative tone often undermines the point being made. Ideally, we would remain objective, and present the advice with information or a personal experience that supports it. It's then up to the other person to acknowledge and follow the advice.
