Take a look at my new hardpipes

Well, after much frustration in finding affordable hardpipes I have taken it upon myself to make my own. I finally recieved all my parts by mail this week, and I'm almost ready to get started. The only thing I need is a small diameter metal tube to weld on the new hotpipe and intake pipe for the BPV. If the weather is warm enough I hope to start this weekend.

What you are looking at is 2.5" madrel bent mild steel tubing, silicone reducers, and Tbolt clamps along with my Clark 95E arc welder. I plan on relocating the MAF if anyone was wondering.

The total cost that I spent was:

$63 (pipes) + $146 (silicone and Tbolt clamps) = $209

Wish me luck!

Glad to see you have the initiative to go ahead and make your own. Good luck show us the completed pipes.

Good luck with it, looks like much work to be done there and make it clean! Nice goldlines in the back.

Yeah, I got to put the goldlines on too when I have time.

Don't worry, I will take lots of pics along the way. Oh, and I forgot to mention, that I am making them for a smic, I have CustomMSP's.

Good luck, but i really don't see how that is going to work with the pieces you have there. How are u going ot use the two 2 u-turn ones. do u have a metal bending machine?

Well, the 2 180degree pieces can be cut in half to make 90's. So I should have more than enough bends to make it work. I also have a 4 ft piece of straight tubing that I can also use.

I will be using a 10" compound mitre saw with a fiber cut off blade to make my cuts prescise.

Oh, and by the way, my dad is MacGuyver. Did I mention that???

Your dad rocks, I saw him make a hand grenade from a cigarete, a marble and a match. LOL

LOL, yeah, I told him I wanted to make some hardpipes and he told me to get some paper towels, and ink pen, and some cake mix. (lol)

nice project their. me and my roomate made all my new tubes the same way. just remember to measure twice and cut once.

Man I used to love that show! Looks like a busy weekend ahead of you if you are anything like me. When it comes in the mail it's usually installed immediately.

Good Luck!

Looks nice Joka1, did you powedercoat the pipes after they were done?

I plan on painting mine with some hi temp engine paint.

What did you use for the fitting on the intake tube where you connect the BOV/BPV? I still need to get some kind of small diameter metal tubing for that.

Yeah, that show was awesome, Richard Dean Anderson is my hero. Well, second only to Chuck Norris (thumb)

I'm going to try and get it all done this weekend, but chances are I won't. The wifey wants to go look for new patio furniture this weekend too. (doh)

Use some 1" diameter round-stock, and make sure it is made out of the same material as your piping. Using the larger nipples (and a aftermarket BPV that has 1" in/out), will eliminate most of the compressor surge that comes from running a single BPV.

One question though... if you are relocating your MAF, why don't you just slap a BOV on there and keep your piping clean (with no recirculation nipples/hoses)?

The more I think about it the easier it would be to put a BOV on. I guess my original idea was to buy a Forge BPV to replace the stock one versus 250-300 dollars for and HKS. So I guess that I was going to go the cheaper route. I read a lot of posts about the BOV's, venting/recirculating etc, dual set ups, etc. Other than a little bling factor/ sound if there really any gain from running a BOV versus a good quality BPV? In the end aren't they both accomplishing the same goal, to vent air, either back into your intake or to atmosphere?

A BPV will keep the turbo slightly more loaded, so on paper I'd have to say that a BPV car will outperform a identical BOV car... even with the MAF relocated. In the real world I doubt you would notice much of a difference, but nobody can argue with the fact that recirculating ALL of the compressed air back into the system is better (for performance) than venting all or any of it.

In the end it really comes down to the sound you want. If you want it to be stealthy, do a 1" BPV system and leave the MAF where it is. Or, if you want to really hear it, do the dual setup or throw a BOV on there with the relocated MAF.

I personally got tired of the BOV sound, and recently went back to a single BPV (after 2 years of venting).(thumb) Good luck with your project, and make sure to do 1" or larger if you decide to do a single BPV setup.

mine were flapwheeled, bondo'd and painted to have them super smooth. i have not had any problems.

Thanks for the advice 505zoom. I think I will stick with my original plan of just running a nice quality BPV. I kinda like the slealthy-ness of the BPV sound, I think I would also get tired of the BOV sound also. Thanks for the advice/encouragement. I will be sure to use 1" pipe for the connections.

Well, I got a lot of work ahead of me. I will be taking pics of my progress. Hopefully tomorrow I will get my 1" pipe and my cut off wheel blade for my saw. And start cuttin' and welding. I hope to have it done by next weekend.
