Taillight removal?

Need to remove and either fix or replace a taillight assembly on my '12 Mazda5. It's the passenger side (right) assembly, the "outer" one that mounts into the quarter panel. The only idea I've come up with is that maybe the mounting screws are accessible from inside the little storage bin on the right side of the boot area, but for all I know the entire interior trim in that area has to come out.

There are two screws holding this entire assembly in place. They are accessible by lifting the tailgate and are within the circular recesses. Once these screws come out, just pull the whole assembly toward the rear of the car. There is a kind of post on the front part of the tail light assembly that slides into a channel, holding into place without screws.
