- Mazda CX-9 GT
>>HUD-Head Up Display aka ADD-Active Driving Display
>>Infotainment-The screen for navigation, audio, phone etc control
Acquired it in 11/2016 and within about 2-3 months and about 3K miles, I discovered that in the Infotainment-Setting control, I no longer get the Option of showing Tachometer in HUD. This option allowed me to, as you guessed, show/not show the Tachometer in HUD. Spoke to the dealer on the phone and reported it as a problem. And then during my first oil change they tried to troubleshoot it, but did not help. Then I dropped the car one day to have them troubleshoot even more and update the firmware/software-still did not help. Also they looked at other CX-9 on the lot and found that one CX-9 had that option and others did not. In fact, the service advisor told me, not only no one else reported this problem, but also he never knew such option existed ever.
Later they reached out to Mazda tech support and got a service bulletin that Mazda took that option out since it was distracting and could be a safety concern! That is BS-IMO! If it was indeed a distraction, why is other items on HUD not a distraction, huh? Why is going through four different click on Steering wheel Info button to show the Tachometer in dynamic display not a distraction? And if Mazda actually took that option out, how it magically disappeared from my vehicle just like that? Let me guess-they pushed the firmware/software update via satellite, right?
I feel Mazda firmware/software has problems but no one is acknowledging it or willing to admitting it as such. This is not a safety concern at all, but I would really like to know what happened.
So, I am calling out to all '16 (and newer) CX-9 (GT or not) owner who can or can not see the option to turn it on/off in the infotainment screen and if it shows up in HUD/ADD or not.
Also Mazda manual on page 4-15 does indicate the Tachometer display in the instrument cluster and HUD, but does not show anywhere how to turn it on or off in HUD/ADD.
Love the car btw, but I wish Mazda engineers/designers thought of few things:
-Button foldable outside mirrors-after all its not a small SUV and this feature is not all that uncommon these days
-Save mirror memory along with the seat memory. I am sure this can be fixed via firmware/software update.
-Ability to go back the current playing song when playing thru flash drive. Imagine turning the knob thru to go to two hundred songs in the middle of the list to go to the current playing song!!! I am sure this can be fixed via firmware/software update.
-Not have annoying-in-the-dark LED in the roof control or at-least cover it or give an option to turn it off.
