Synthetic oil debate

Mazda always has and probably always will say no to synthetics. Don't know why. My '86 Rx-7 even said in the owners manual to use conventional (the general theory behind this is that rotaries purposely burn oil, leaving less ash than synthetic). I'm sure it's a "dino juice works, let's not F%$@ anything" mentality. I'm sure if you asked them "I got an MPV, can I use sythetic", they'd give you the same response.

Put in some Mobil 1 (if you can find it) and be happy.

Exactly. Mazda and their rotary engines...

just had the dealer do the synthetic oil change for me for 51.
not a 2nd thought from them

car runs great right now :)

Maybe it's the additives that could be a problem but I doubt synth is an issue in this engine. Still, it would be nice for a Mazda rep or engineer to elaborate on why they don't recommend it. My dealer doesn't either. Lots of guys use it and don't seem to have any issues so it should be safe. I've contemplated it but because I refuse to run this engine beyond 3-3.5k between changes, I don't see the point in it.

Dealer service departments don't recommend it because they figure if they use only conventional oil, you'll have shorter change intervals and be back for another change sooner, which in turn makes them more money. You have to think like a car dealer.

The owner's manual says:

"Only use oils “Certified For Gasoline Engines” by the American Petroleum Institute (API). An oil with this trademark symbol conforms to the current engine and emission system protection standards and fuel economy requirements of the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC), comprised of U.S. and Japanese automobile manufacturers.".

It says nothing about not recommending synthetic oils, so as long as you use synthetic oils "certified for gasoline engines by the API", you're good to go.

when i bought the car they told me not to put synthetic in, but then again the sales man tried telling me the intercooler was the air filter and that the scoop in the hood provided a ram air effect hahah, I tried not to laugh so hard when he told me this.

Anyways at what mileage should you consider going to synthetic, ive heard during break in you want to run conventional oil.
