Suspension for 1200?

So here it is. I got about 1200 to spend on suspension. Do I go BC coilovers? Swar Bar? Springs and struts? What are you guys running and what do you recommend. I'm just looking to improve the handling of this car. I would like to do something to make the front tires stick a little more. I spin like crazy. I know that the best solution is to switch to rwd of awd, but I like my speed. So what are my options?

there's also koni + spring set up, h&r coilover or st coilover. JBR swaybar and camber kit. btw, do you have a Rear motor mount? get those if you don't have one yet.

Heres what you need to do....
1.. get a RMM to stiffen things and possibly the other 2 mounts later.
2. get yourself some 18x8 or wider rims and put some 235/40 or wider rubbers on them
3. as for suspension that really depends if you want a "race" or DD set up...I would suggest H&R Coilovers or the Koni/H&R or Eibach setups to get the stance in check, which will also reduce your wheel spin.
4. If your still not satisfied then get your self some chassis braces to finish things off.

Just my 2 cents.

all these things are good but definitely more than $1200. wheel spin and handling are separate issues. if you want the best improvement in handling get coilovers. not the greatest comfort for a DD but your cornering and control will increase dramatically. as for wheel spin... yes, rear motor mount and wider tires will help vastly. if i had to pick the best combo for around $1200 i'd get coilovers and a rear motor mount.

Koni is running a big sale through may, you can get a brand new set of yellows for like 20% off now. Then either h&r springs or eibachs. That should leave you 4-500 leftover for motor mounts and maybe some sway bars.

Well I'm already running wider tires on the stock rim. How rough are coilovers for DD compared to springs and struts?

If you want the front tires to stick a little more, get stickier tires (not necessarily wider ones).
What tires are you running now?

these are basically in the middle as far as stickiness in BF goodrich's normal line up(slicks aside). are they 225s? for me the number one thing that reduced wheel hop/spin was the rear motor mount. i've got a 75 duro. after that it was going to 235s on an 8 inch rim. although, i have sticky 225s on my other wheels and don't get any spin/hop with those either.

never had after market strut/spring combo only a couple sets of coilovers. the biggest upside to coilovers is that you can adjust the ride height however you want it and the handling is stellar. the down side is comfort. if you mostly cruise on smooth freeways it's not a big deal, but if it's a lot of city driving and bumpy streets you will feel every bump! if you just want a reasonable DD then get struts/springs. if you go to the track or go for regular spirited drives in the twisties then get coilovers.

I'm running 235 if I'm not mistaken. What tires are you running. Its about that time that I pick up new tires. I did like these tires, but they got worn pretty quick. I went through the stocker and these, and I only have 35K on the car. So a tire that will last, would be great. I'm leaning towards struts and springs. Koni with the eibach springs. anyone running this?

wow, 235s on stock wheels? my 235s are goodyear eagle GT. also in the middle stickiness wise but i don't get any spin/hop with them. do you have a bunch of power mods or something?

sounds like you are probably putting down more power than me.... could be part of the "problem!"

Seems like the first thing to change out is your tires!! All the suspension and power mods in the world will not do you any good if you don't have the grip on the ground to utilize them.

The "BF Goodrich G-Force Super Sport All-Season" is a "Ultra High Performance All Season" rated tire with a treadwear of 400. Higher number generally means good for treadlife, but bad for overall traction. .

There are 3 levels of performance categories ABOVE the tires you currently have (going from better to best) :
1) Ultra High Performance Summer (Kumho SPT, Dunloop SP Sport, g-Force Sport)
2) Max Performance Summer (Goodyear Eagle F1, Pirelli PZero, Hankook V12)
3) Extreme Performance Summer (Dunlop Star Spec, Hankook R-S3, Kumho MX & XS, Yoko AD07/08)

Switching to any of these will give you much better dry performance. Go with an Extreme Performance Summer tire for the ultimate street legal dry performance tire (I recommend the Dunlop Star Spec).

As a note, the OEM Bridgestone Potenza RE050A is a "Max Performance Summer tire".

I like the price and rating on the V12, but I live in Georgia where is gets below 32 degrees every now and then in the winter. Anyone running these in the winter?

Run those in winter w/snow = death.

I still have new ones sitting mounted on MS6 wheels used them for a few weeks and had to replace 3 of them cuz they were out of round.

two individual sets that do each thing especially well is WAY better than 1 set that can't do anything well. More expensive, yes. But running all season tires and trying to get more grip by way of susp mods is counterintuitive.
