Suspension for 1200?

+1, Get a winter set and a summer set.
I live in SoCal, so I only have a summer set (and plan to have a track set as well). This may not be good for this weekend's Lake Tahoe trip though. . .(toilet)

I have the Hankook V12s in 225/45/18 and they are good replacements for the OEM Bridgestone RE050, however on a track (road course, not autocross) they heat up and get slick toward the end of a session.

I have the Dunlop Star Specs on my other car and think they're a stickier tire. . I haven't tracked on them yet, but most people I've spoken to speak very highly of them.

I was at Buttonwillow a few years ago and a guy with a MS3 had intake, 3" turboback, race slicks, and STOCK Suspension (though camber and toe settings were readjusted). He was pulling a 2:06 in Config 13(boom06). My friend who is a track instructor with a Porsche GT3 with race slicks had a real hard time trying to catch him.

His site was, but i don't know if it's still working. .

2 sets is the way you should go! I got a set of FD's for $150 and four used General Altimax winter tires (4,000miles) for $150.

if your not going to race it then I would say stick with the strut/spring combo, they are SOOOO much more comfortable for DD. but if you like your liver mashed then coilovers are for you..

Well I'm already running wider tires on the stock rim. How rough are coilovers for DD compared to springs and struts?

For a $1200 budget I'd get Bilsteins and keep the stock springs. I have MS coilovers and they are rough for daily driving on bumpy roads like where I live. They really punish you on sharp edged bumps. But they are great on smoother pavement.

if you had to run an all season, i have Conti ExtremeContact DWS tires on my wifes acura, and they are fantastic. i'm thinking of going to them after my v12s wear out. but you said you live in georgia. i dont see why you would need a winter setup at all. the couple times you do get an inch or two of snow everything shuts down anyway right? also, if you are considering springs at all, the eibach prokit springs are a good option. they're designed for the stock struts, will lower you a hair over an inch, and dont ride super harsh. i hated the wheel spin too, but those springs, a RMM, and new tires took care of it

I saw a big decrease in wheel spin with coilovers. Got the Yellowspeed from ProtegeGarage (email ken to get a better deal). I'm happy with these so far (about 5k miles). Quality is excellent and they come assembled. The only thing you reuse is the rubber spring seat in the rear.

If you pair this with a rear motor mount and trans mount, you will get a much more direct feel. My car has much better traction and feels like it jumps when I hit the gas. You should be able to pick these 2 items up used for around $200 so you can keep to your $1200 budget.

H&R Coilovers for DD and good handling FTW!! also wider tires and wheels helps a lot with my torque steer, and for tires Im running Conti Contact DWS I live in the Carolinas and they are great for all-season weather, my 2cents
